I could use some advice iro cpu temp "situation".
My m/b (abit IP35 Pro) utility (uGuru) is giving me a cpu temp of 127C at idle. I think it's just plain wrong, but best to check I guess. My bottom-line question is: what do I do/use to get an accurate/reliable temp reading on the cpu. Talk about one thing leading to another. This is probably a lesson in ignorance is bliss. ![]() I replaced a 120mm case fan this morning which had gone bust, probably a bearing I suspect. The new fan runs fine, but I noticed it was running at a much slower speed than the old one. Mind you, the old fan was more powerful anyway. So I thought I'd have a look at the fan settings in bios. There weren't any. Then I realized/recalled that this m/b has the Windows-based uGuru utility and I realized I hadn't installed it when I had to reload the comp from scratch 6 weeks ago. So I installed uGuru; no problem. I went into uGuru to look at the fan settings and noticed the cpu info was in red warning state, with the cpu temp on "disable", ie not showing. I enabled it, and it shows 127deg C. The pc promptly shut down. I've since disabled the cpu temp function in uGuru, so the pc stays on fine as before. But now I'm concerned about the cpu temp, although as I say I suspect the reading is plain wrong and the pc would have blown if it was really that high. But I'd like to get a handle on what the cpu temp really is. Aside from sticking my hand in and feeling how hot the cooler is, is there a good utility or other way to get an accurate temp for the cpu? Of course, I should have probably left well enough alone. ![]()

Try CPU-Z, should give an accurate enough reading.
Try to keep it below 60C, max temp is usually not far above that. * It's possible you're actually getting it in Fahrenheit; 127F = 52.8C, which would make sense temperature wise.

Your point about F vs C is a good one, I have to confess I didn't look closely. But the max temp was set at 75, so I'm pretty sure it was on deg C.

Well I meant maybe the program has it confused; getting a report in F and displaying in C.
![]() Pretty sure no CPU is meant to run up to 75C though, so if you can change that set it too something like 60-65, but make sure it's reporting correctly first. ![]()

It doesn't, sorry. Was a bit too hasty.
![]() Speedfan then, or Real Temp, Core Temp. Can also get it from PCWizard; pretty handy if you need any other details on the system.

I use CPUID's hardware monitor... Gives you all kinds of good info - from voltages to temps - and not just for the CPU, but for bridges and GPY as well.
