Default Real Pirates - Have we not learned anything from history?

Can you believe this? If the stakes are higher, history has always taught us that pirates run. They want easy juicy targets! When was the last time you EVER heard of a pirate attacking a Man-O-War in the 1800's? It just doesn't happen! Pirates want the unarmed ship. They want free! When it might cost you something as high as your life, then a pirate will look for something easier to go after.

You know whats wrong with the world these days? Hardly anyone has common sense anymore. Mark my words on that.

Quote:
...The MSC agreed that flag States should strongly discourage the carrying and use of firearms by seafarers for personal protection or for the protection of a ship. Seafarers, it was agreed, are civilians and the use of firearms requires special training and aptitudes and the risk of accidents with firearms carried on board ship is great. Carriage of arms on board ship may encourage attackers to carry firearms or even more dangerous weapons, thereby escalating an already dangerous situation. Any firearm on board may itself become an attractive target for an attacker. Carriage of firearms may pose an even greater danger if the ship is carrying flammable cargo or similar types of dangerous goods....

Special training? Are they serious? You point, and pull a trigger. What idiots. So easy, an uneducated pirate with no education that came out of a jungle has figured it. Seamen are too stupid apparently as compared to the average pirate.

During the times of pirates (them old ones), I think it's pretty safe to say that most merchant ships were armed. Thus, the pirates used small, fast and maneuverable ships to attack their victims.

Of course, today it's a whole different thing and the size and armament of the "victim" does matter.

But of course they will remain unarmed. It takes special training to point and shoot.

Haha, yeh, that's pretty... well.. stupid.

Hey, I know! How about all merchant ships would build fake MG's from cardboard and brooms? Then have a recorded MG sound playing on loop from the loudspeakers.

If the pirates wouldnt be impressed and would board the ship, the crew could then save themselves by yelling "April's fool!".

The problem is the companies that operate these vessels see pirates the same way that the pirates like to see themselves.
