Real Pirates - Have we not learned anything from history?
Can you believe this? If the stakes are higher, history has always taught us that pirates run. They want easy juicy targets! When was the last time you EVER heard of a pirate attacking a Man-O-War in the 1800's? It just doesn't happen! Pirates want the unarmed ship. They want free! When it might cost you something as high as your life, then a pirate will look for something easier to go after.
You know whats wrong with the world these days? Hardly anyone has common sense anymore. Mark my words on that. Quote:
Special training? Are they serious? You point, and pull a trigger. What idiots. :nope: So easy, an uneducated pirate with no education that came out of a jungle has figured it. Seamen are too stupid apparently as compared to the average pirate. -S |
During the times of pirates (them old ones), I think it's pretty safe to say that most merchant ships were armed. Thus, the pirates used small, fast and maneuverable ships to attack their victims.
Of course, today it's a whole different thing and the size and armament of the "victim" does matter. |

Hey, I know! How about all merchant ships would build fake MG's from cardboard and brooms? Then have a recorded MG sound playing on loop from the loudspeakers. :hmmm: If the pirates wouldnt be impressed and would board the ship, the crew could then save themselves by yelling "April's fool!". |
Just make all the merchies plague ships. Warning swine flu on board. KEEP CLEAR!

The problem is the companies that operate these vessels see pirates the same way that the pirates like to see themselves.

Well... you could always feed the crew beans and "blow the pirates away.":rotfl:

That is a complex problem for a company if you dont pay the ransom your employees will get killed and that will make your other employess less likely to want to keep working for you.A nation can say we dont negotiate but for a company this is not such a good option as most nations are implying that they will use military force something a company does not have.
In the end it is the job of the worlds navies/coast guards to enforce national/international laws of the seas(which pirates violate) but it can be hard as pirates can simply can change their area of operations. I think the Somali pirates where ruuning in a smaller area then navies began to patrol that area so they adapated and started going farther out away from where the navies where patroling. It must be hard as you must find stop and inspect every single boat or ship you find you cant assume any one vessel is good or bad. The pirates do what they do because to them that is the best way to get fast cash for low cost themselves these guys live in a war torn country they dont really have much to live for so they dont mind if a few of them get dropped by Navy SEALs.And a merchant ship carrying a few small arms might not be doin itself any good seeing as the Somali pirates can get RPGs and that guy above has a PKM you have get 10 or so guys coming at you with this kind of fire power and you only have a few weapons it wont stop much and then they will simply start attacking with more men and more guns. |
Q Ships.....the final solution http://www.psionguild.org/forums/ima...ies/pirate.gif

Hmmm... Full military assult on pirate areas (ex those little happy pirate towns.) Ban civilian boat/ fishing boat traffic in the area, and any boats trying to flee to get out of the baned area boarded, and sunk.:yep:
