Default Reality TV for the downturn....

Just when you thought they had scraped the bottom of the barrel, they come up with this!

http://business.smh.com.au/business/...0409-a12i.html

Maybe they could do it for CEO's of companies who need bale outs!

Kinda gives new meaning to the term "backstabbing" doesn't it?

Ugh.... reality shows......I hate them so much

Well, whatever sells I guess. Can't blame capitalism for capitalizing. At least they'll be creating jobs.

What I find really depressing about all of this is the simple fact that these programs would not be made if there was no audience for them. The show makers are simply reflecting the opportunities of the market. Have we really reached the stage that people are so devoid of any sense of taste and decorum that they actually want to watch this type of program. Pretty depressing, yes?

I never watch these type of shows. The whole premise of many of these types of shows seems to be making the suffering of people into entertainment. This I find distasteful.

I can't help making a comparison between today's society taking pleasure in the suffering of "contestants" and the Roman Gladiator Reality shows.

There, the Roman citizens (Early TV audience?), took great pleasure in watching the suffering of humans and animals (Survivor Maximus?). They applauded the winners, briefly honoured the losers and eagerly and impatiently waited for the next show (season?).

Is it is good sign when society starts taking enjoyment out of the suffering of its fellow citizens and starts making suffering into an entertainment business?

I don't think so. But, as in Roman times, the vulgar masses disagree.
