SHIV:Gold with TMO Installed, Questions

I have installed the TMO, 360-Degree-Imperial-Plotter and Fewer-Radio-Contacts MODS.

Some questions not covered in the forums as far as I can tell --
  1. Is it me or is the PDF game manual supplied with SHIV:Gold very sparse and full of functions I can't find? Like the command (or button) to reset the TDC to zero-state, where torpedoes would then be launched on pericope bearing. Is there one?
  2. Is there a mod that will work with SHIV:Gold with TMO installed that will change the color of the buttons in the command toolbars so that I can tell whether a button is depressed (i.e., in need of Zoloft) or not? The greenlamp.rar file (on the downloads page), when activated using the generic-mod-installer did not seem to work for me. I was going to manually replace the texture files until I realized that at least one replacement file had no equivalent in the "vanilla" folder to which I was moving them, so I thought better about manually installing the files and let the generic-mod-installer thae a shot at it.
  3. Why, oh why, am I being assigned a patrol off Honshu with my home base at Pearl in a Porpoise-class sub? At Ahead Standard -- the best use of fuel economy according to the TMO mod -- I am finidng it difficult to make it there and back, even with a stop at Midway. This last is mainly a gripe, not a question. I'm hoping to be offered a new sub class soon.
As always, thank you for your time.

It's not uncommon to see ireggularities between the final game and the manual. Sometimes developers drop things or don't have the time to finish features. As for resetting the TDC, just disable the PK, point the scope to 0, send a bearing and set the speed to 0. You'll shoot straight forward from now on.

No idea. In my version of TMO all button states are pretty obvious. Try this mod.

More torps, faster (if I remember correctly), etc. With that boat I can easily sail to Imperial waters with only losing 1/4 of my fuel reserves. I thing the Asiatic Fleet is more suitable for the smaller boats.

1) There is a running joke here about the manual. It's best purpose is to use it a coaster for your beer.
2) As Hmuda said. use that mod, I do, and it's very nice, highly recommend it.
3) I like to start my career late enough that radar is available on the boat. It's all up to you how you wish to play.

Well, the MOD suggested (see above) did not work. I have no idea why. I "enabled" the MOD using the generic MOD software and it says it's enabled, but no joy. I am now only running TMO and the (supposed) suggsted MOD.

How does one confirm that a MOD (such as the TMO MOD I installed) is ACTUALLY working inside the main program?

Well, for TMO it will be onvious once you're inside the main menu. It will have a different background animation, and instead of "Credits", there will be a new option for the TMO readme.

It will also have a new load screen with a black and white picture, and in bold letters say "TMO Overhauled". It will be very obvious. If you don't see this, you need to recheck your install. You may have your folders structured incorreclty.

I'm seeing neither, so I guess I'd better go recheck how I have Generic Mod Enabler setup. I'm perplexed because I am a great believer in reading instructions. Thanks for the hints! I'm sure I'll get this sorted out eventually.

Funny thing is, when I temporarily installed the 360-degree plotter compass for the attack/navigation maps I *did* get those MODS installed properly.

Weird!

One thing I should have mentioned as well. If you are using Vista, you may need to run JSGME as administrator. Right click the exe. (icon) and select "Run as Administrator" Depending on how Vista is configured, JSGME may appear to be installing the mods, but will not actually copy and overwrite the files into the folders. Running it as Administrator will remedy this. It's a protection thing. Also...Make sure you have unzipped (extracted/decompressed) the files into the mod folder! Let me know if you have any problems, I'll do what I can. You will love the changes. Good luck!

Yep, using Vista. I hate Vista. I will try your newest suggestion as well.

Another question about the manual/game. In SH3, I could toggle the TDC off and on at will (in the TDC screen there's a 1/0 switch). I can't find such a switch in SH4. I'm trying to wean myself off of auto TDC but want to keep my WO available in a pinch.

After looking over this thead again, I tend to lean toward thinking your files have not been extracted before going into the mods folder. If the post above does not work, I'd check that. Are you familiar with extracting (unzipping) files?

In SH4, you can turn the PK ("Position Keeper") on and off, but the TDC is basicly on all the time. There is a button on the bottom right on the PK to toggle on and off. If you are wishing to learn manual targeting, check out some of the sticky threads in this forum. There is a wealth of info and some good tutorials on just about anything you want to know.

Very familiar with unzipping files, but the wacky extension caught me off guard. I am familiar with rar and zip but had never seen a *.7l extension so I thought it was a file rather than a zip file. I'll unzip it tonight. [Sounds racy.]
