At the moment i am using my old 22 in CRT monitor which when i play all my games uses the full screen to display the picture.
If i get a 22 ins wide screen monitor does the games use the whole of the screen height wise or does it show black bands at the top and bottom of the screen. I mean all games not SH3. Thank you gentlemen in advance |

Yes, I'm running a 22 inch wide. Runs full screen. I have a EVGA 9800 card. It detects the ratio needed. I run SH4 and COD waw full screen. No problem. Internet is full screen. Come to think of it. Everything is full screen. What are you waiting for!

I did consider going for a 24 in screen but using the same graphic card regardless of which one i buy the frame rare will drop by about 10 using the bigger screen. Now this might be ok in some games but of course the games to come will be even more graphic intensive i feel. So to get a reasonable frame rate i would have to use the really new powerful cards and being retired and on a small pension i would find it hard to meet my electric bill as they do consume a hell of a lot of power.
Thanks to you all for your posting guys. |

I just looked at a pair of 22" Widescreens tonight at my local store.
Both show images right out to the edge of the edge of the frame in all four directions (up, down, left, right). No letterboxing of any sort (I think the input source was DTV for all the monitors, btw, which is widescreen by default. But at the same time you must realise that the physical dimensions of both frames are different. 4:3 means: 4 units wide by 3 units high. A 16:10 (widescreen) monitor will be wider (more squat and flat in appearance). 16:10...or 8:5...or 4:2.5 in ratio. Meaning: A widescreen monitor is 5/6ths as high as is a normal format monitor (in terms of highth to width). It might be meaningless anyway, as far as making a choice between the two goes, as widescreens have almost completely taken over the market these days. In practical terms (and unless you are willing to spend a LOT of money to go against the flow) you'll find yourself buying a widescreen option in any case these days. I still have my ~8 years old 17" CRT, maybe it's time to get a new one :hmm:

Some of my older games have borders on the sides of my monitor.
Command & Conquer series for instance. If I force them to use the fullscreen they look distorted and stretched out. I have a 22 inch Samsung. I don't mind those borders at all. |
