Default Hypocrite...

When someone like the Pope, the head of the richest and most powerful Christian religion in the world, arrayed in all his splendor like King Solomon of old, makes commentary on "wealth"...

Sorry, but I can't picture the Holy See doing a communion in 'sackcloth and ashes" anytime soon...

So... what's holding you back? This should be fertile ground... Point is, while I agree with him, accumulation and pursuit of wealth is rather futile (you can't take it with you and I have my convictions regarding my faith), I simply think it's hypocritical. And, of course, I'm demonstrating my own hypocrisy too I suspect...

All I can say is that his grasp of economics is pitiful.

Are those diamonds and gems in his crown?

The phrase, "Do as I say, not as I do", comes to mind.

Most of the criticisms are self-evident, obviously. Aside from that, where the Dope's argument is fundamentally flawed is that he assumes that people pursue welath for its own sake, whereas most people seek it for the security it brings - good housing, food on the table, health care, better education for your kids, etc.

Ask a catholic child in some backstreet in a South American city whether he would prefer salvation or shoes on his feet and food in his belly.

First off it's "Pope", not "Dope". If you can't discuss the issue without insulting the religion of a third of the planet maybe you ought to keep your opinions to yourself.

Secondly, none of the Catholic churches assets belong to an individual but rather to the organization. The current pope no more owns the diamonds in the Papal Tiara (yeah that's what they call it) than the Queen of England owns the jewels in the English crown and if either should step down their fancy hats go to their successor.

Im not rich and i know im better of than most in this planet but i dont consider my pursuit of more wealth pointless. Its mans natural desire, and it can either be in the open or in the shadows, i think open is better.

And BTW i didn't say the above to be mean but rather to illustrate that what Clive has done is marginalize and discourage every Catholic who reads this forum from participating in this discussion.

Now I don't know him well enough to understand if this was his intention but I see this kind of thing an awful lot here and would rather people keep those attitudes to themselves.

Regardless how you see him, his words ring true. A recession also means less money for his coffers too by the way.

Can't we all just get along?

C'mon Mihkayl, give Ratzie a break, it's not his fault, it's Catholic Churches Co.

Kidding, August I'm sorry, I tend to partly agree on Mikhayl on his views about deityism, but that doesn' give us the right ot mock others religions... However, this isn't about Cristianity, it's about the Catholic church in general and about it's at present CEO in particular...

You can't hurt beliefs... Let's trie to hurt persons instead I kid! I kid!

Tough calling him Dope is funny:rotfl:
