Default Weather comment, and a positive one too!

Just a quick thanks to all the modders out there who worked on the weather side of things in GWX2.1.

After playing possum, all quiet, sitting silent near the ocean bottom 95 meters, (Ocean bottom is very nice too by the way, I've always been into nice bottoms) due to been hunted by a couple escorts that finally gave up, I rose to surface a few hours later, and the weather was amazing.

Not storming, but I guess it was coming in. The water looked amazing, reflecting the dark clouds, the waves at about 3 to 5 feet, but no white caps, just waves, dark clouds above, no rain, no wind.

Just the quiet relaxing sound of the water lapping against the pressure hull. Broken only by the thunder. I just sat there in external camera mode, got up close to my guys in the conning town on watch. I just sat like that in front of them as I watched, listened, and took it all in. It wasn't like this when I submerged.

The lightning was truly amazing. Like every 5 seconds, right in front of my bow, and the claps of thunder were amazing. It was constant, loud, and just rolled off into the distance, one right after another. With surround sound it was awe inspriring, Normally I would have set about getting the battery charged, reload the torps, fix any damage, send out my radio report, get my crew where I want them, then return to course TC to the next way point.

This time I just sat there enjoying the weather, the lightning, thunder, and waves.

I could only imagine after getting depth charged, having to hide silent on the bottom, how fresh the air must have smelled to the crew, just taking it all in.

I hope that real crews got a moment to breath after all the stress and anxiety they had to face.

Thanks again.

Be careful sitting surfaced in a storm with low visibility and lightnings after being hunted. Escorts or taskforces spotted me from farer distances as they suppose to in this weather when there are lightnings. My WA is not able to take advantage of it as well.

Good point, I thought that two hours was long enough, plus I just did a slow rise while listening. That was kind of interesting too. I watched from the external camera up close, the bubbles rising from the air pockets on the Uboat, the water had this nice tint to it, so was really cool. I left my camera angle at one spot deeper down and then just watch the uboat as it rose away from me. I thought it was great that evenough you never know who and how a game will be viewed, the bottom and keel of the Uboat is highly detailed too. I guess its that whole me being into nice bottoms thing again!

You should see/experience weather across a wide spectrum (apart from snow) in GWX2.1

Weather in GWX 2.1 changes more often. Still plenty of long lasting nasty weather.

True:

I have seen so much of it, the storms with their towering waves, and beautiful sunrises, sunsets, the moon as its just rising. I remember when I got my new video card and saw the huge waves the first time with the new water effects, my, they looked so real. Really gave you a sense of it all.

One of my personal favorites is at night in a dead calm, the sea like glass, I'll hit F10 and just look around at the night, the waves from the deck gun position. I can sit there for hours, just imagining the whole thing. Looking back and up at the guys in the conning tower. Looking over the side with the rail as the water gently goes by. You could forget you're on a ship designed to kill, in the middle of a war.

ANother, was at night and needed to surface to recharge my batteries, and reduce the carbon monoxide, after sneaking into Lock Ewe, another perfect night. I pulled her up close to a bank in a little inlet. Just a beautiful night the water like glass, all the while knowing where you just stopped and parked.

If there was more free will written into the crew AI, I think they would have gone swimming that night.

My favourite position, too.
