Default Record numbers of viewers tune in to the GOP convention

Most watched political convention in American history. That's pretty impressive. Shows a lack of confidence in Obama's standing I'd say.

After lackluster showings in viewership at the beginning of the week, the Republican National Convention bounced back on Wednesday and Thursday, making it the most-watched political convention in American history (or at least since Nielsen began recording convention viewership in 1960)....

That's a rather shallow level of analysis.

Only you can take a tv watching statistic (which is estimated) and turn it into an inference of lack of confidence with the candidate you disagree with.

Did ja ever consider that the hoopla over the selection of Palin might have just sparked a little interest?

Great analysis from a guy that posts Obama/Amish toilet humor on subsim forums.

I'm sure it did. Problem is, the GOP is 'never' as high as the democrat side. Ever! If a poll shows both at 40% for example, a conservative is less likely to participate in that poll so you are looking at numbers that are under-representing for the Republican side. Always.

Its most telling portion is that people were not happy with the choices up to that point. Palin was the perfect ingredient to boost things like I've never seen before in a Repub convention (and I've been watching them a long time!)

Come on Subman, this is really scraping the barrel for anything that even remotely smells like good news.

The GOP convention was more newsworthy due to Palin. Nobody knew who she was until last week. Subman's conclusion is erroneous.

Course you don't, I'm disagreeing with you.

Why do you think that it's Obama who's responsible for the increased interest in the convention instead of an unprecedented selection for the McCain ticket? I mean, who has dominated the news either side of the convention?

See you would be right if Palin was speaking the whole time. When the numbers came in, Palin's speech was already over the day before! It was McCains speech they came to see.

The news is hardly an indicator of anything except for the medias bias to the democrats.
