Default SH 1.5 - patch or only expansion?

Hi, where do I get the 1.5 patch for SH4? Or is it so that 1.5 is available only as U Boat Missions expansion? Is there anything actually patched for the American "side" of the game in 1.5?

What I am trying to say is - I would like to play some mods designed specifically for 1.5 (RFB for example) and I am not interested in U Boat Missions per se. Can I install mods for 1.5 over v1.4 assuming it's the same core game?

1.5 is the Uboat missions add-on, there is no way to get to 1.5 without the add-on. Almost all mods for 1.5 will not work for 1.4 because several important files changed with the add-on. Changes were made to the game overall, including the American side. I can't list the changes off of the top of my head, perhaps someone else can. I do know that loading times are faster due to a change in the way the game is loaded.

Oleg..

The add on is only like 10 bucks, it fixes a hell of a lot of things, adds some content.

Nothing there forces you to click the German Carrier button

It's not too expensive but it's a hassle. This is the first time I know you must buy an add on to get a patch for the original game.

Is there an option to buy the add on over the internet by download only? I can't see it on the Ubi site?

An other Oleg did that with IL-2
Pe-2 was the name of the addon, and it was only available as a download.

The add-on is the farthest thing from a patch...

Sorry LukeFF I don't understand. So do I have to get the add on to get to 1.5 or not? Digital Trucker says I need to get an add on, you say it's "the farthest thing" from a patch. So can I get patch 1.5 without getting an add on?

If you meant it metaphorically or something, then yes, of course I know what's an add on and that it's usually much different than a patch, but in this case those two seem to be bundled together and not available separately.

I only want to play an US sub, with some of the newest mods (and all the latest mods are for 1.5). If the only way to get 1.5 mods is to buy an add on I'll do it. It's not expensive, and it's not a big problem generally speaking, but it certainly is an unnecessary hassle (as I am not interested in additional German content of the add on). I'd much rather just download a patch 1.5 than go thru online ordering of a boxed DVD (as it seems that digital download for the add on is not available).

yes you need to get the 1.5 ad-on so the game becomes so much more without ever even thinking about uboats. i and 80% of those who bought it use it purely to make the game better and mostly play the US side exclusively and dont care about uboats.

the 1.5 u-boat ad-on is not really a patch and its not really a u-boat thing either, it does more as a tune up for the game engine rather than being important for having anything to do with uboats or german missions.

it doesn't even include any german missions with it lol, so if you want to play the german side you need to download one of the mods here that gives you a group of missions to play.

think of it more in terms of a needed change in the way the game accesses and uses files so that things in the game run faster better and smoother. the game loading times are cut in half and it has much more game interactivity and playability.

just to clarify a little bit, i have found that some of the 1.4 mods will work in both but the key is it cant be a mod that effects the AI or environmental things. sound mods texture mods and mods that only effect sim and zon files seem to have no problems working in 1.5. likewise a file that was made for 1.5 will very likely work in 1.4 if it falls under the catagory i just described.

one final note:

the ad-on brings the stock game up to version 1.5 so you no longer will need to use a patch 1.4

i would suggest you start brand new with a clean install of the game so if you find any issues you will not have to wonder if its something you already had messed up.

Default The 1.5 is a part of the addon.

The 1.5 patch is a part of the Official Addon.
It increase the range you can see and fixed some old problems but also created some new bugs.(like every bugfix XD)

I was kinda ticked when the expansion came out U-Boats but I bought it to support the series and I knew the mods would move that way. I must say after installing it, I have changed my thinking. It did more for the American campaign than I realized and made it an even more stable platform. I have never even clicked on the U-Boat side and probably never will but if I had it to do over again, I'd buy it in a minute.

BTW, you can download it at direct2drive or Alienware.com.

Sorry to revive this dead horse. Just a quick question about 1.5 and 1.4. Are saved careers from 1.4 compatible with 1.5? I dont want to let my current command go, I love my Gar/Tambour the USS Grayling.

Sigh damn ubi. I wanted to keep those two careers alive. Ah well, time to ramp up the difficulty to normal and take away unlimited fuel. Currently on my way to Honshu to hunt me some merchants
