Oil tankers doubt!

HI everyone!
While sinkig a improved T2, i've received this idea:
if a tanker is trasporting gasoline, oil ecc, why her "fuel reserve" on her image in recognition manual is so small? Shouldn't be great like half ship? :hmm:

1) Cargo is not fuel reserve
2) Tanker fuel and tanker cargo fuel may not be the same
3) Might be tricky to run a pipe from cargo to fuel tank safely

i think he means:
fuel bunker contains fuel.
if the fuel bunker is hit the ship will explode.
the cargo bunker contains fuel.
therefore... if the cargo bunker is ****, the ship should go KABOOOOOOM!
also, the fuel (cargo) bunkers, altho not connected to the fuel(standard) bunkers... are still "fuel bunkers"... (i didn't loose any of you in the explanation, did i )

Unless it's traveling in ballast, meaning there is only warter in the tanks. thant means no boom and more torpedos needed to sink her.

I agree, a ship that carries any kind of fuel in her cargo hold should light up like a Roman candle!

Hitting fuel in cargo area doesn't necessarily lead to explosion. See Mythbuster regarding the myth about shooting at a gas tanks. For there to be an explosion, the fuel/air mixture must be in the right range. Different type of fuel is also important, Crude is not too combustible, even fuel oil such as diesel need the right condition to explode, where as kerozene will really get the fire work started quite quickly.

That said, once the fire get started, any type of fuel will most likely consume the ship, metal and all. However, in SH3/GWX, those dedicated merchant crew will never abandon ship even while they are being burnt to a crisp by tens of thousands gallons of fuel. They will keep manning the deck gun till the ship goes down...

That was using BULLETS not High explosive torpedoes, big difference there. Does rather depend on what kind of fuel a tanker was carrying though. It should certainly be a lot more flammable at least, and if it's carrying aviation fuel then it would DEFINITELY explode! Aviation fuel tankers were famous for doing so when hit in ww2.
