CCTV boom fails to cut crime: police

LONDON (AFP) - CCTV cameras have failed to bring about a reduction in crime despite billions of pounds being spent on the network, a senior police officer said Tuesday.

Detective Chief Inspector Mike Neville -- who leads Scotland Yard's Visual Images, Identifications and Detections Office (Viido) -- said the system was an "utter fiasco" as it only helped solve three percent of crimes and failed to deter criminals.

It has it's uses. Did it not capture some nice your ladies topless on a beach somewhere over there? I believe the got tickets for the offense. It is worth it's weight in gold!!

It did. I saw the 60 min investigations on it. All the guys were checking out the size of womens breasts with it since it does no good for anything else.

The 3% of criminals caught were all simply loiterers. Nice! $3 Bill to catch loiterers. The cam companies are smart though. They got the gov to buy it!

We got so many CCTV cameras here in the UK and running out of places to put them so here are some suggestions.

Public toilets.
Your home, bedroom would be a good place.
Toilets where you work.
In your TV, to see what your watching.
Inside the u-bend in your toilet to watch you crap.

I laugh at all this security camera stuff. I worked at a catalogue company that had an extensive camera net work. ...and the people watching the cameras? Reading the newspaper and eating pizza, anthing but watching the cameras.
