Without colonisation whites would have owned 75% of the land yet make up less than 2% of the population. Without colonisation only whites would have had the vote, leading to a civil war between white minority government and black nationalists. Whatever.

Blame the Europeans for everything? I don't see where you're getting that from. There's no way to avoid putting at least some of the blame on the retreating colonial power.

It lasted from 1888-1979, i would claim Zimbabwe would be even more undeveloped without this period. Over third of the population has the HIV/AIDS, whos fault is that?

I can see where you're coming from, my statement was less than clear. I read the Zimbabwe story, and I could imagine reading similar stories about Iraq 15/20 years into the future. I was drawing a parallel rather than generalising about all colonies & and all post-colonial situation. But this wasn't evident.
Shock-therapy decolonisation will cause trouble, such as in Zimbabwe. The usual structure of society is left open to power-hungry types like Mugabe.

The situation in zimbabwe, is scary for whites in africa, here in South Africa especially.We have thousands of illegal immegrants streaming accross the border everyday, whilst out goverment persuees a policy of "quiet diplomnacy" which does sweet nothing to alleviate their plight.They (african goverments especially) continue to harp on about finding African solutions to problems, and not being the whipping boy to Europe.This is self defeating and ignorqant.
(Many of our ministers are appointed due soley to the fact they participated in the "struggle"and everytime i see one of these self important ignorant asses on the telly i'm reminded of the pink floyd song, we don't need no education...

But they will remain in power as long as the great mass of people contnue to practice reverse racisim and xenophobia.Some examples of the state of affairs in my country(which borders Zim)....

our health minister advocates African beetroot for AIDS...

our president in waiting (Jacob Zuma) has already had a rape charge laid against him(the woman was HIV but he took a shower so thats ok), and now has corruption charges against him, but it will make no difference to the average black person so long as he is in power

We have power outages because the coal being supplied to our power stations has been handed over to various BEE (Black economic empowerment) which cannot get the deliveries right.(the head of one of these companies was an interior decorator:rotfl

we had surplus energy withthe previous goverment, but the new gov. decided to fire/retrench all white people (some with 30 yrs experience in the industry)and replace then with inexperienced blacks.-no power.

Our energy minister tols goverment to warn off foreign investment for the next three years.

Land seizure is not called that , although farmers are forced to sell their land to the goverment(at what is deemed a fair price.These farms(90%) which are then run by the"workers' fall into dissarray.(but not before the newly appointerd black farmer had bought himself a mercedes and a rolex)

We have one of the highest(if not the highest)incidents of rape in the world.

Crime is rife and rampant, so much so that concerned citizens form neighbourhoos watches, and patrol the streets at night,supplementing the police force/

we had an elite police unit, with ready access to judges etc, and they were trackin down high profile corruption etc.The\is was disbanded by the ANC after too many of their members were nailed.

This country is being sunk by ineptitude, and we will be alonside Zim in a decade of two,then i think we should just amalgamate the two countries where we can share the nothing.
