Default Here comes the cav...

1941 off the coast of France, BE 96 I believe,Attacked a small convoy in a VII, managed to get two hits on a large cargo, and a single eel in two mediums, the large went down with ease, one of the mediums' back broke, and the other just crippled and taking on water. The cans were PISSED and on the attack. I dove under the convoy like I normally do, to surface on the other side and send an aft-tube-salute, however, this time the cans got wise and got there before I surfaced. they started to DC the hell out of the area. I started dammage controll, but things looked grim. the sonar man reported destroyer on an attack run, I though I was done, and the 50k of earlyer earned merchant shipping (a pretty good patrol so far) would all be for naught (save often beeing one lesson learned from this). Then, I hear an explosion, much louder than DC's, and much more spaced appart and sparatic than DC's, as well as the cans changing corse rapidly. I go to the external view, and lowe and behold the Flyboys came berraling in, a flight of 2 Stukas and 2 BF-109s. the had one can listing, and one on fire. Needless to say I was out of there, all ahead flank and run for it. This is one lucky Kaleun. Needless to say the Captian and Crew of U-47 told BdU to extend their deepest thanks to the Luftwaffe.

i dont know if it is something with GWX 2.0 but I see alot more air support now. 2-3 times in the last week while I was being DC'ed, Stuka's came and saved me. Also last night when I was attacking Dover, the Luft bombed the crap out of it (I died).

GWX 2.1 - Patrolling in the Black Sea and came across a small convoy with 3 destroyers. Sent in a contact report (actually 4 or 5 - more chance of it being received and an SOP for me) and set for the attack. Sank all three destroyers and was setting for the merchants when another 3 destroyers came for me. Looks as if they were escorting another convoy and came to help their buddies. To cut a long story short, four Stukas came out of the blue and sank two of the destroyers as well as disrupting their D/C attacks on me.

They not only saved my butt, they also gave me an unprotected second convoy full of fat merchants to sink. Beers for the pilots were on us when we returned to port!

I've been there as well. I reckon it's about 50:50 at the moment!

I have seen them very often on the english channel 40-42.
Have saved my butt couple of times, not only that but they have sunked the destroyers on my way.

I'm going to need to sell my U-boat to keep buying beer to the flyboys for appreciatings.

I just started GWX2.1. We'll see what that's all about--never seen the Luftwaffe in action in previous versions.
