Default Renaming the Crew?

Hello, i was wondering if its possible to re-name some of my crew, for example i can enlist some lowly sailor and rename him as one of my friends, and watch his career grow, of course id help him out with promotions and medals (if he deserves them!) and hopefully avoid his untimely death...maybe....

It would be nice to have a boat full of people i know and care about though, it would add a new "depth" to the crew management for me

Thanks in advance

Well I've not tried this myself... but I've noticed in the SH4 savegame folder (found in the My Documents folder) it lists all your saved games. In this folder is other folders that are called 00000000, 00000001, 00000002, and so on, these are your actual saves (in this case I would show 3 saved games). Now the easiest way is to go into the game load up your save, then go in and delete all your save games, and then save and exit the game.

You should be left with a single folder now. In this folder is a file called ActiveUserPlayerUnits.upc. This is a simple text file that can be opened in Notepad.

A ways down you will start to find all of your crewmember slots, and they will have names. I believe you can just change these names to whatever you want.

Quote:
[UserPlayerUnit 1.Compartment 1.CrewMemberSlot 1.CrewMember]
ID=Crew-Jr-NCO-Rank-1-Torpedo
NameDisplayable=Ewald H. Dresner
.....
.....
Like I said I've not tried this, so you might want to make a backup of your savegames just to be sure before editing.

Alternatively you can go into your SH4 directory to Data\UPCData (or UPCDataGE for the German campaign) and edit the CrewMemberNames.upc file found in the UPCCrewData folder. Whenever you start a career the names are pulled from this file. This won't affect a career in progress however. And if you are editing the German names make sure you change the German names at the bottom of the file, not the US names on the top 2/3rd of the file.

Yes you can. Go to your documents/SH4/xxxx(your saved game)/activeplayerunits

The names are there. Write down the names of the crew you want to change, click the edit tab, find and just punch in the name and you will be there. Just change it to whatever you want.

If you don't want to delete any saved games you can open up the ReplayInfo.rep file in any of the saved game folders with your favorite text/hex editor and you will see the name of the saved game after the second non-ASCII character (the little box looking thing, if you're using notepad ).

Awesome! I had actually been going by file creation date... but this is much better. Thanks!
