Default Deadly snorkel

Help! i play GWX and it seems like it is much safer sail around on surface than snorkeling because planes gonna start hit me any time when i use it. Sometimes even 2 planes on same time. Something is wrong, it must be not normal, snorkel was meant as a safety thing but now it acts like beacon calling enemies !!! I m doing something wrong...? Bad thing is, that when snorkeling i do not notice planes until i got already bombed...and it is often too late...that too.

That, of course, is the problem with the snorkel, as many U-boats found out.

While snorkeling, raise your OBS scope. You will be knocked out of TC when an aircraft enters visual range.

FYI, high TC will kill you.

Why snorkeling when it is safer sail on surface (at night im always surface except escaping destroyers) ? As i said, they see my snorkel far away, i think it is more visible on them that my entire ship when it is on surface...

lo vipper

the schnorkel is a life saving piece of equipment to have on your boat mate...but...depending on how late in the war you are..the allies radar will eventually pick up your schnorkel...even at night as their radar improved greatly in the latter stages of the war.

if this is happening mate then i dont know of a workaround that can help other than whats been mentioned above...but i will say this....if the gwx team have put this in ,then im even more impressed with this great mod than i was before!!!
im not that late into the war ,but if its this real....i might not get there!!!:rotfl:

i would say the schnorkell would help in areas that no aircraft are present...but later in the war the allies pretty mutch closed the gap over the atlantic

There is indeed a stock bug in vanilla where the snorkel has the same visual signature to the AI as does the entire boat. I believe the GWX team fixed this, but am not sure. If so you should be safe snorting at night before c. mid '44 (when millimetric radar started seeing widespread installation on Allied maritime patrol aircraft).

cfg, sim it writes:[Visual] Enemy surface factor=350 ;[m2]
and [Radar] Enemy surface factor=5.0 ;[m2]
these they is minimal m2 was meant ......the snolker it only calls the planes when it has also radar in the end
of war

What was one or two of the devices/detectors attached to the snorkel that actually sent a signal that in effect 'called' the allied planes? I may have my devices and what they were fixed to mixed up here. :hmm:

dont know about being attached to the schnorkel mate but the early aircraft warning reciever the germans installed on their u-boats actually lit up the u-boat to the allies like a christmas tree!!!

bdu finally found out and radioed the u-boats to tell them to stop using it immediately

it might have been the metox or biscay cross (bug)???

About the radar detector sending out s signal, wasn't that just a rumour (rumor in the USA) put out by the British to spook the German skippers?

Have spent a lot of time snorkeling in the North Channel and off the Hebrides but have found that any TC higher than x16 results in surprise air attacks and damage. Frequently. That is with the observation scope up, day or night and in conditions of good visibility. Have yet to recieve any early warning from the FuMB-3 supposedly mounted on my mast either.

Still, there's no patrols like late '44 patrols...

Good Hunting
