Sorry if I missed something about that ;-) but everytime I do a crash dive in waters which are 100 - 150 meters deep, my boats bow is rammed into the seafloor ;-) there is nearly no reaction if I try to stop the sinking via the depth meter. Am I doing something wrong?

IF you figure it out let me know!!!

I just tested by hitting C key. Boat leveled off at 70 meters. (GWX2,0)
you may want to read article on unctrolled dives on my webbie. I wrote it for crash dives in shallow water. 1.-when reaching PD hit the A key (hold this depth). 2.-go into astern propulsionm this will slow your dive. You should be able to level off at 30 meters.

One technique I use when in shallow water is rather than using the crash dive command I order flank speed then hit D to dive then set the depth appropriate to the conditions. I normally try to stay away from shallow water but when caught short I dive to around 40m if the water is deep enough.
Can't say I've seen the crash dive fail to stop diving unless I'm damaged or I in advertently hit the D key after the C key. |

the diesels before diving wasnt done. which explains why I use the technique you mention most times to get some knots over the dive planes. if all else fails hit the s key and try to check the dive that way but dont forget to level off. because I fight alot at pd. I usually after hitting flank count to five and then hit d immediately afterwhich I hit P it works fine either way to just hit the depth you want on the dial instead just as fast the trick to a quick dive is inititial speed even the american boats will go under quick by this method. |

Well it's pretty much all that hitting the C key does anyway except with the 70m restriction. Game!

Is possible change the crash deph
![]() In the movie "das boat" they don´t dive too deep when crash dived, perhaps no more than 40-50 meters. the problem is in shallow waters with a crash depth of 70m. How many secons take a crash dive using the D key compared with C ??

I'm pretty sure you can change the crash depth in the files. Nice for gaming, but again real life intrudes. A normal dive meant filling the ballast tanks to the neutral bouyancy level and using the planes to dive the boat. A crash dive meant flooding them all the way, which meant that they had to be pumped out again on the way down, which meant that 70 meters was pretty much what you were looking at when you did a crash dive.

Sailor Steve is entirely correct in relation to how a crash dive operated, so the technique I described is not necessarily realistic in relation to a crash dive but gives greater control in game in shallow water without the problem of hitting the bottom. It also helps when you get some early warning gear later in the war and you have a much better chance of getting your boat underwater before the threat is on top of you. |

I'm still playing an earlier version of GWX (just downloading 2.0 now).
I noted that after crash diving, then ordering a deeper depth on the guage while still in the crash dive, if you switch to silent running while in the dive, you will continue past the ordered depth (nearly imploded once due to not catching my actual depth until the final moments and taking emergency action to prevent my descent right past 300 m on what was supposed to be a 120 M dive). After thinking about what might have caused this, I came to the conclusion that flooding your tanks fully (crash dive mode) followed by shutting down the pumps (silent running) meant that the diving officer could not put air into the tanks to stop the dive. Screw RPMs and control surfaces set for ascent could not overcome the added ballast as I saw it. Under these conditions, I would consistently sink uncontrolled until I a) secured from silent running, and b) combined RPMs with orders for shallower depth.

Just FYI, if you are using SH3 Commander with the malfunction & sabotage effects enabled, there is a crash dive failure which can cause your boat to dive to very deep depths.

I have noticed that a crash dive will drop you 10-20m below the designated 70m, but the boat will come back up to correct depth, it just takes time. I put it down to the bouyancy effets.:hmm:
