number of patrols I believe is it. :hmm:
each crewman has a base amount of renown and is awarded more on the completion of patrol in the case of the early promotable they had more base renown in the first place and the cumulative renown qualified them even though your other crewman deserves recognition you cant promote him till he qualifies for promotion. best you can do is give him a medal or reward I tried enhancing crewman experience specific to their stations in shIII but to no effect where in shIV skillsets are a little more specific. i think i understood that, got lost in the orange bit, but i think i got it - it's basically down to patrols accrued and what ever each crew member came in with - yeah ?

Yes! Patrols only.
In new carreer, I go around the harbour and return to dock, that counts as one patrol for experience. I do 2-3 times before heading on a real combat patrol. Makes things much easier. You can also collect a speciality after each of these "training" jaunts.

One other thing, giving them medals also gives them experience...
![]() this means if you give a petty officer an Iron cross 2nd class, he'll have enough experience to be promoted, however, if he wasn't eligible for promotion at the end of that patrol, he still wont be when you give him a medal, first he'll have to do another patrol, this is probably because of paperwork involved or something... ![]() or you could "manage your crew" in sh3 commander and use that to adjust to your liking. ![]() |

thanks Kaleuns !
the in's and out's of sh3 are very complex - and sometimes overwhelming to remember. it's taken me the three years since the game coming out to finally getting round to understanding it. time seems to be a big issue - it takes a very lonnng time to assemble all the information in my head and only then be able to use it...................................
