I attempted to add the gwx mod today and screwed my game up big time. I had forgotten i had added a mod into my gramiphone folder so after installing gwx the game would not load. i eventually uninstalled the game and redownloaded the 1.61 gig file from ign again. i went into regedit and changed the name of silent hunter 3 and got the game to reload on what appears to be the origional 1.0 version again.
Feeling elated that the game loads again i went after the the 1.4 patch and once again have become stonewalled. When i try to load the patch i get an error message: This program cannot update the installed version of Silent Hunter III US download v1.0 to v1.3 because of the following reason: C:\program files\ubisoft\silent hunterIII\data\menu\de_menu.txt: unknown version I refired up the game and look at the lower right corner and it shows 1.4 but the load is the origional game load dows not show the Grey Wolf or show the expansion pack ![]() I also followed the path into that txt file but see no mention of versions listed at all. Any ideas on how to get this patch installed would be greatly appriciated ![]() |

Try to move all the files in the menu folder named "de_menu.txt, en_menu.txt and fr_menu.txt " into a separate folder (CUT, not just copy). Then try to install the patch. I know there have been some issues with the files named de_help.txt, en_help.txt and fr_help.txt in the same folder, so i would have given this a try...:hmm: (If this is wrong, and anyone else knows what causes this, please enlighten me too...

My guess would be that the problem lies within the machines registry.
Try to uninstall the complete game including mods. Manually remove files which were not removed by the uninstaller and manually remove all SH3 entries in your registry. Finally reboot and install the game with patch and mods. Maybe this link will help Hope that helps....... Last edited by CNS; 10-18-07 at 04:01 AM. |

I had this problem with my UK version of the game and the same error message, and it transpired that I was trying to patch the game when it was already 1.4 on the disk, and therefore all I needed to do was add GWX to the game and then the 1.03 GWX patch. Hope this may be helpful

I tried moving the menu files but the error just transfered to a dll file. so before i left home i uninstalled the game (again lol) deleted all user files went into regedit and deleted the whole string of silent hunter. then did a search and came up with no other regestry items. with fingers crossed i left home with the game once again installing.
on a side note i am running windows xpsp2, and i did try to run the gwx files in case it was actually 1.4 and got a message warning me i was attempting to install on a wrong version so i aborted quickly. |
