Default Does anyone use (or care about) the replay feature?

Hey folks. The replay feature is nice to have (thx devs) but it is really screwy. You cant stop and start it (which sucks since the replays of your patorls can grow to 700 mb!) and it isnt 100% accurate all the time.

Also, since patch 1.3 the engines of your sub are shut down all the time. The sub still moves as if the engines are running but the screws do not turn. This really ruins it for movie makers. You know, those machinima directors out there.

Does anyone know a fix for this or understand the whole replay feature at all?

THANKS!

I guess they should have made SH4 an open boat where we run around inside and shoot each other a 1000 times. They seem to handle those games with numerous patches. --Longam UBI SHIV Forums

Not once. This is one of those areas where I think some research (eg, asking potential players) should have been done during the design phase. They may have discovered before-hand that this would be a wasted effort, and committed those resources to something else instead... like a nice 2D interface (ala SH1), or Narwhal class boats, or SV RADAR, or a better RADAR implementation in general, or better crew management, or a crew names database that doesn't assign ridiculous combinations like Vladislaw Jefferson Briscoe Q. Kneebleknocker, or... well you get the idea.

Used it once and if you have long patrols it creates huge save files, so opted not to use it anymore.

One nice option with it (call it cheating if you want to) is that you can choose to start playing again at any point in the replay. So, it's like having a save file for every instant in time in the replay. :hmm: If you slap yourself in the forehead and scream "If only I hadn't done so and so at such and such a time....." you can save the game with replay, play it back to such and such a time and start playing again (but don't do so and so again:rotfl: ).

Never used it. Don't see the point. It takes space.

Sounds like something that was started in the first dev of the game then ignored after, but I have never tried it myself.

WOW!

I had no idea that so many people didnt use this feature. It is great if you are into making movies. Also, if you play at 100% realism it is nice to go back and review your kills after a long patrol. If I am attacking a heavily guarded task force I always go deep before my torpedoes hit. If it werent for the replay feature I would never see my kills!

Oh well, I guess if no one cares about it then modding it is pointless...

I use it quite a bit. Why you ask? When I play 100% I'm not afforded the outside views to see the action. When I have particularly great attack I will go back and look at the action. It is a cool feature for this. Also, like DT said, you can go back and review were you went wrong as well. Another cool, feature, if you notice red lines along the bar on the bottom, this indicates were the action begins. You can fast forward right to the spot. Play around with it a bit and you will see it is kind of fun to have this tool.

Actually the red lines indicate when a ship has sunk. The GREEN lines indicate when you have fired a torpedo. If you fast forward to the red lines you are going to miss the action. Fast forward to just before the green lines to start the show!

My lines are so close I'm not sure which one does what when I click there. All I know is this is were some action starts. Very nice feature so you do not have to watch the whole thing.
