From - Commander of St. Nazaire
To - BDu Have not heard from U-30 since she left base on the night of the 15th Nov. Last reported position was south of Ireland around grid BF12. It has been now 3 days since U-30 sent a patrol status, so I am now declaring U-30 lost at sea with all hands lost. (I got sunk by some very accurate depth charges from a lone V&W destroyer - all but 2 compartments flooded, Hydrophone/fore batteries destroyed. Went straight to the bottom with heavy flooding ![]() |

SRY my finger pressed enter.... anyway. I had heavy flooding and dropped to 215m then hit again and dropped to seafloor at 230m. As i was close to shore somewhat. Anyway with batteries, diesals and all engines knocked out i waited at the bottom. Fixed flooding but kept getting nailed. After about two hours i blew ballast. There i sat alone in the south atlantic waiting to die. A lone dd came and blew me away. Not even a struggle. I tried but to no avail.

Anyway...Rest in Peace you brave sailors of U-30. You were not the first, nor the last, to die in the icy waters of the Atlantic.
