Permanent good weather in a mission
Is there a file I can modify where I can adjust the weather through a whole mission? Can you give me details on how to do it?
Thanks in advance, Dep ![]() |

If you do a search for Weather mod you'll find what you are after. Don't complain. It could be bad weather permanently which can be worse. BTW how often are you saving and reloading. The weather change chance timer gets reset every time you do that even with the weather mod.

I think it is the one I was talking about. http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=103202
I don't use any weather mods and I don't seem to have too many problems with the weather changing. If the weather doesn't change I resist saving and restarting for a while until it does unless absolutely necessary. |

Weather data is contained in the campaign_???.mis files in the campaign folder.
it goes something like this: ... fog=? fograndom=? clouds=? cloudsrandom=? rain=? rainrandom=? wind=? winddirection=? windrandom=? ... WeatherInterval=7? set all the values to "0" and you'll have sunny, calm seas with high visibility. I prefer fog set to medium (2) which allows me to sneak up on convoys while surfaced. WeatherInterval sets how many hours must pass before the weather can change. I think the highest setting is "72", meaning three days. I find weather still changes even with all the randoms set to zero. SH3Weather doesn't alter the randoms. finally return to port before changing these files. and have the same settings in each file to lower the risk of errors.

TarJak: That's the program I tried and it just gave me calm weather when leaving port. But thanks anyway
![]() ahaseurus2000: Ahhhhhh...now we are talking!!!! ![]() ![]() Thanks a ton for that info. I like to do a lot of surface kills early in the war and nasty weather sure puts the crimp on them. I appreciate that info!!!! Dep |

I just finished a patrol which started out calm, no wind. Made it all the way to my patrol area, off of Africa, still calm. Did a save, came back and still had calm seas, usually it starts out with bad weather from a save. Spent 20 days at sea and only had a couple of days of bad weather.

Well I did the file modification as described by ahaseurus2000 and it worked exactly as he described it. Water was smooth as silk. I managed to get some excellent kills off the southeast coast of England using both torps and deck gun. Even blasted some aircraft out of the sky!! After 72 hours and on my way back to home port the weather turned back to stormy. I went back into the three Campaign_ LND, RND, and SCR files and it looks like nothing was changed. They are still at the same setting I modified them to...
[Mission] Title= MissionType=0 MissionDataType=1 Year=1939 Month=1 Day=1 Hour=12 Minute=0 Fog=0 FogRand=0 Clouds=0 CloudsRand=0 Precip=0 PrecipRand=0 WindHeading=0 WindSpeed=0 WindRand=0 WeatherRndInterval=72 SeaType=0 Briefing= I changed all 3 files to read exactly the same settings. I wonder what the overriding file is that changes things after 72 hours??? Perhaps I will try a higher number on the WeatherRndInterval to see if that has any effect. Dep |

Awww...what's wrong with doing the old fashioned way and just taking on whatever weather comes your way...like real life. Those boys sixty years ago couldn't change the weather. The North Atlantic has pretty crap weather most of the time anyway.
Think of it as an added challenge. ![]()

10th patrol of my current career, and it makes days and days and days that I have a crappy weather with a 15 m/s wind, soon after leaving the harbour... I'm getting sick while performing periscope attacks!
![]() Challenging, but I'm getting a bit bored of having bad weather almost all the time since a couple of patrols. GWX too, here. |

The weather in SH3 has never really bothered me, I save a lot but still seem to have regular changes in the weather. I get days where the weather is foul, but I also get days where my crew could slap on the sun tan lotion and get a nice tan. For example, I recently started a new career and for my first patrol the weather was excellent i.e. high visibility, sea like glass. For my second patrol I have had very little cloud cover, but half way through the patrol very rough seas have prevented any use of the deck gun. I do use SH3Commander and have the option for seasonal wave heights checked, not sure if this has any effect on the weather though.

I know it doesnt affect players who play straight thru but remember the weather clock
The game is supposed to change to weather according to the entry WeatherRndInterval=4 On the campaign files 4=hours So in theory the game should make changes to the weather every 4 hours or so BUT It seems to go for days of calm then stormy and little else in between Now if after day 5 the weather is still calm and you save and exit the game When you reload that save you reset the weather clock So you should now get another 5 days at least of good weather Save after 6 days in a storm and when you reload you again reset the clock and so will get at least 6 days of crap weather Those who make a lot of saves as above can end up in the same weather the whole patrol |
