Default External Electrics

I read today (Submarines at War 1939-45), that electric engined torpedoes were never placed in external stowage because it led to battery problems, only steam torps were ever stowed externally. Can anyone verify that?

I read something similar on that elsewhere. Probably makes good sense. The game lets you put them where you want so you could follow the "rule" and not place electrics in the external bins.

Six torpedo tubes were fitted in the type IXC and U-889 had twelve torpedos onboard. Stowage was provided in the upper deck casing for eight air torpedos but electric torpedos could not be carried in this way.

The 2 air torpedoes were stowed in containers fitted on the upper deck. War heads for the air torpedoes were stowed within the boat and were not fitted until the torpedoes had been brought down from an upper deck container into the hull. The work of bringing a torpedo from an upper deck container into the boat was said to be extremely difficult and dangerous. It could be carried out only in a flat sea and required several hours.
Here:

I studied a couple of Interrogation reports at Uboatarchive and found that generally air torpedoes were carried in the upper deck containers,

Most of these containers appear to have been removed in late '42, start '43 because:

The Second Lieutenant said that a main reason for the removal of upper deck torpedo containers from U-boats was that they were liable to leak following a depth charge attack and leave bubble trace on the surface.
