After provioning in Cadiz, we patrolled the gulf expending our deck gun ammo and a couple of torpedoes. With 59,000 tonnes under our belts, I decided to begin our return journey to Willi. The weather had turned sour and we fought a force ten gale.

As we approached the west coast of Ireland, received a report of a southbound task force. Though the weather was not promising, we turned to intercept at dawn.

The sky cleared and wind eased as we approached intercept point.
As we submerged, hydrophone operator reported multiple sound contacts. On course, on schedule.

At first light, I spotted Revenge surrounded by a destroyer screen and a Dido cruiser.

Down scope, the Revenge was going to pass at less than a 1,000 meters.
We turned the boat for a perpendicular shot. I knew I had only one quick chance. set up a salvo of four eels for 11 meters and a spread of 1.5 degrees.

I presset the periscope to 30 degrees and waited.

When the sound man reported the Battleship on a bearing of 30, up went the scope.

Almost perfectly framed in the scope was the battleship at 650 meters. "Feur!"
whoom, whoom, whoom, whoom four fish departed.
"Down scope!"
Dive to 100 meters, speed 6 kts.

The Dido hit our conning tower and rolled us to our side.
A rumble of explosions told us at least 3 torpedoes hit.

Passing 40 meters, we heard breaking up sounds.
"Speed 1 knot. New heading 290.

Several destroyers circled the area but left us alone. We ate a late breakfast with brandy in our coffee. Some mornings are good!
