External camera - lateral movement?

I am just learning the game. Is there any way to get the external camera instead of rotating to move laterally? I don't see a key for this. Thanks.

Hi mate! Try using shift + arrows ( i think it was shift or ctrl)when in external or free view. Just experiment, is half of the fun!

I think if you left-click on the mouse it will change from rotating to lateral or vice-versa.
