My first GWX Armed Merchie Gun Duel
After upgrading to GWX I got a nasty surprise in early 1940. An armed tug did some serious work on me with its gun. Since then I only bashed unarmed merchies with my deckie.
Aug 1941. 300 miles west of Dakar shortly after sunset, intercepted armed Brit small freighter. Saving my torpedoes for a nice, fat convoy, I decided to use deck gun. I have a gunnery qualified officer and petty officer. We opened fire at 3,000 meters. All over the place, was where the shells were landing. though we did get a couple of good hits. at 2,000 metersTommie opened up. His shooting not better than ours. I tried to keep narrow profile, changing course and speed. Several enemy shells landed uncomfortably close. Our gunners were still firing at the enemy gun and missing. At 1500 meters, they got a kill and we polished the freighter. Big difference from vanilla, where i used to pop up by blowing ballast and surprise Tommy Gunners. I'm looking for a convoy a long way from home, harass them for days until the escorts are out of DCs, then massacre the blighters. ![]()
