Default contacts on map

Hi guys , one thing I dont understand Is how boats magically appear on the map out of visual range. I assume it would be from a contact report sent by hq but there is never a radio message. Am I correct? Just nit picking great game and mods.

I always assumed it was other UBoats, Surface ships and spotting planes.

I also tend to get more random sightings in good weather than bad

They are contact reports in exactly the same manner as reports on convoys.

I love those contact reports--except that sometimes they are neutrals.

Something strange happened the other day...going into Kiel at the end of a patrol, I was told by my Radioman of a contact report on the map. Never happened before...he usually doesn't say anything. It was about a warship in my assigned patrol grid.

Look at the message at 10:02

My patrol grid was AN21. The Radio Message gives speed and course and identifies it as a warship. Never saw that before.

Einbaum, that happens sometimes. Mean to simulate sightings by other u-boats or the Luftwaffe etc.

In addition to contact reports/icons on single merchants and convoys, you will also get them (less often) for task forces, warships, even your own sides' commerce raiders.
