From first day of usage GWX mod I have some strange impression that AI (destoryers, merchants) have too good eyes. Visual in GWX is too goot for AI. I had good example today. My crew on tower say "Visual contact ..." and I have been hit in same moment. My crew have 100 %eEfficiency. Screen:
![]() In GWX is very hart to follow a ships. They look out you very often, but i see them very slightly. In night is very hard to enter in to enemy convoy. When is fog enemy see you when you see them ![]() |

I think it has been covered in the manual. The ship´s spotter is higher than you, so he can see more over the horizon than you can, also the ship´s spotter has better binocs than you.

Oki but the Uboat was very small and hard to spot. Uboat dont smoke. Ubout should spot enemy before enemy spot Uboat.

That´s why the spotters knew what they were doing. On a sunny day, the wake of a uboat & the bow wakes etc. reflected the sun like a mirror.

Sure they were harder to spot than a ship, but they weren't invisible, add to that the wake produced by it to keep pace with the convoy and you increase the chance to be spotted. ![]() ![]() Here in Mar del Plata is based the submarine force of my country, In the 70s/80s we still had a couple of operational Balao class subs, and I remember spotting them leaving port on a clear day and calm sea from a distance of at least 3 km with my naked eyes, they are larger than the german subs, but not that much. Also, don't forget that in GWX, you can run with "decks awash" when stalking/attacking a ship/convoy.
In a type VII, ( which usually runs at a depth of 5 meters when surfaced ). If you set the depth to 6 meters you will run with decks slightly awash. Your speed and fuel efficiency will drop to about 82% of normal, but you will be harder to see and can still man the deck gun. You can also set the depth to 7 meters to run with the decks heavily awash (pretty much just the conning tower out of the water). Your speed and fuel efficiency will drop to about 75% of normal, but you are even more difficult to spot. |

NiKuTa,
As a rule of thumb (you'll just have to trust me on this), do not surface during daylight ANYWHERE within 30KM of ANY enemy unit, on a day that is both Clear of fog , and calm in wind. If the waters are flat, and the sky is cloudless without a drop of rain - dive. |
