Red Storm Rising problem

After years of searching, I finally found RSR software. My old 5" disk from the game I purchased obviously won't work with my current notebook. I downloaded the software from a legacy site, but I have having a difficult time getting it to run. When I execute the .bat file, it works up to the point where the mission orders come in. At that point, it freezes. When I exit, the following message pops up:

C:\WINDOWS\system32.cmd.exe
The NIVDM CPU has encountered an illegal instruction.
CS:4e4r IP:ffa6 OP:00.00.00.00.00 Choose "close" to terminate the application.

I've tried using both the original REDSTORM.COM file as well as the one available on this site. Same result.

Does anyone have any ideas?
