Red Storm Rising problem
After years of searching, I finally found RSR software. My old 5" disk from the game I purchased obviously won't work with my current notebook. I downloaded the software from a legacy site, but I have having a difficult time getting it to run. When I execute the .bat file, it works up to the point where the mission orders come in. At that point, it freezes. When I exit, the following message pops up:

Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks |
Try running the game under Dosbox, it's also worth installing the frontend program D-Fend for it as well to make things easier. RSR certainally works for me this way on XP at least.

As Sonarman said, RSR runs fine under DOSBox. My preferred version of the game however, is the Amiga version which I play using the Winfellow Amiga emulator.

Or if you are a real purist. like me... try the original C64 version with an emulator for that system eg winVICE.

Yes I've still got all the discs and those fantastic manuals for all the Microprose sims on C64 & Amiga too.
I well remember rushing home from school to play on my C64 at 5pm and after what seemed only like two hours it was suddenly 3 o' clock in the morning!...where did the time go... the mark of any truly great game. Mind you quite a bit of that time probably went into loading the games in with those damn tape player thing, prior to my acquisition of the super speedy 1541 disc drive! Looking back now, it's amazing how much gameplay they managed to cram into that tiny 64KB of memory and frightening to think that was now 20 years ago! |
