Because the AI Torpedo routine was never included in the game.

People are working on this problem.

Yeah, they're like a noisy fly that you can't kill.

The other thing about the Elco's is that they are very good at calling for support.

Just try running the Channel.

Is it possible to kill them? What type of guns do they have?

Fill them with Flak lead. Or try the DG if you're a good aim.

a couple of weeks ago I was talking to anvart about his work on
a torpedo bomber for sh3 he said that he was working on a way
that he was confident would work to provide any type of sub
torp that we use as a usable weapon by AI units Planes and
ships so all is not lost. it may yet happen.

Yes, they most certainly can be killed. But there's a catch. The sea state has to be calm enough for you to use your AA or deck gun. You'll probably want to move around some when firing at them. Hitting them with the Deck gun isn't so easy(in GWX anyway), but if you score a hit with it it does a lot of damage to them. If they are fairly close when your watch crew spots them, just dive immediately to periscope depth, because it's too much of a risk to the crew on the bridge and they will damage your U-boat too. Keep in mind once they are close enough to fire at you, your bridge crew are at somewhat of a risk of getting killed. Do some manuevering while returing fire! And has been already stated, they are good at calling in for help from bigger guns, destroyer and aircrafts.

Yes the little buggers can be sunk but watch it they seem to work in three's very seldom on there own.

I was in the channel of first 1939 patrol and I sunk one but two came up and I dived, not long after a DD was steaming in my direction thankfully the elco's aren't good underwater detectors.

Notice that the in secound patrol you get orders to stay out of the channel.

Grant:hmm:

My crew is usually boarding them and doing some wakeboarding...

That's our Chief...

P.S. Seriously, if you have able gunners it's not that hard to bust 'em. But i'd never go against more than one boat at a time.
