I was sneaking into Scapa Flow to scan the anchorage for targets when I got detected by a Flower Class Corvette. I tried to shake him off in the limited depth that was available, but there was nothing I could do - he was all over me like white on rice. As we were doing our frantic contortions several feet underwater the 'vette's sailors had the bright idea of setting the depth charges ultra shallow to blast us to the surface. That was a mistake, and they didn't live long enough to regret it - when the charges exploded they blew her depth charge crew 50 feet in the air. As if that wasn't enough the DC's ignited the vessels's aft magazine, starting a chain reaction that detonated the forward magazine with a huge fireball and cut the corvette in half. Result - burning oil, flying men, splintered metal, and heavy proximity damage to my U-Boat, which was right underneath the mayhem. As a grand finale the wreckage of the Corvette landed on top of my VIIB as it sank, completely trashing it. I had about 5% hull integrity, so I gave up and exited the mission.
I wish that the AI was a bit more careful when using its own weaponry. Apart from the fiasco above I've seen destroyers shoot their own merchants full of holes to get to me, careless B-24's blasting a Fletcher DD with bombs aimed at my sub, and destroyers neutering themselves with their own DC's like the Flower Class above. Although these situations can be satisfying to watch I really doubt that most sailors and aviators were THAT incompetent. |

I've seen them run aground to my own amuzement, I've seen it happen more than once in a single mission. The funny thing is they keep on going till they ignite. however they are smart enough sometimes to start backing off if the sense a ramming attempt. Go figure!

Personally i think thats wonderful AI.
Im sure there were times in the war where stupid morons did **** like that. I mean think about it. Almost all the men of the western world were tooling around in massive ships, shooting off massive explosives to their hearts content. Surly the idiot in all of us came out occasionally. "Hey jonny i know how to get this guy. Set them to heaps shallow and drop them in quick succession." "haha i love it lets try i...BOOM HOLY JESUS!!" |

I'd just like to add that I like the thread title - it made me laugh even before I opened the thread.

I've seen some medium to heavy warships at anchor outside ports (this was Scapa Flow) beach themselves after receiving (seemingly) fatal damage. Maybe an attempt to save the crew? If so, that's not a bad job on the part of the AI.

How come the bastards do a job on me without creating amusement (except for themselves)?

Brag, doo doo happens.
![]() I'm sure that one fine day you'll see them blow themselves out of the water. It's bound to happen sooner or later. That's the reason I like the external camera, to catch some of that kind of action. I just wish I was quick enough at times to get screenshots of it.

I love to hear about the destruction of Flower Class Corvettes. I hate 'em.
