Default Myth or reality Kiel Canal??

Hi guys,
Just been reading a post on the Kiel Canal...ive looked but cant seem to find it, i was wondering if there was a shortcut through to the North Sea rather than going the whole way round Denmark..no probs if not?? If anyone has any facts about the canal that would be great..i was talking to a friend and he said "yes it exists...but no way will you get a u-boat down it"..lol

You will get a U-Boat through it in GWX. Before you even move when in Kiel ask you Nav officer to plot the outbound course through the canal. He will plot the course and you just have to order follow plotted course & set a speed.

Have a search of the web
Was called the Kaiser Wilhelm Kanal
Now called the Nord Ostsee canal

http://www.kiel-canal.org/english.htm

Not big enough for a uboat eh

Looks like hard evidence to me. Anyway, perhaps maybe F16 is using the standard game that does not have the canal. If so, you will find it in all its glory with the GWX mod.

lock sill depth:
in Brunsbüttel NN-10,20 m
in Kiel-Holtenau NN- 9,80 m
mitred lock gates:2 ebb tide and 2 flood tide doors per chamber
filling: through 2 side channels each with 12 branch channels
lock transit time: 30 minutes

new locks
usable length:310 m
usable width:42 m
depth:NN-14,00 m
lift gates:each chamber 3 gatesthe middle lock gate - which is also the reserve gate - makes it possible to transit the lock more quickly in a shortened chamber
filling:in Brunsbüttel by revolving lock gatesin Holtenau through 2 side channels each with 29 branch channels
lock transit time: 45 minutes

Its was widen after first build to allow deadnoughts to use it
Those figures are current ones

The nicest thing about the GWX canal is there are no annoying locks you have sit in while they pump your water up to...or down to the next level. Too bad there isn't a 3-D souvenir shop selling baubles on the shore. "I navigated the Kiel Canal and all I got was this lousy tee shirt."

I didn't know about this Kiel canal until I restarted my career to wilhelmshaven. In fact the reason I restarted my career was because it took a really loooong time to sail from the base in Kiel to the North sea, espescially in a type IIA boat.

It wasn't until my 2d partol (in second career) that I found out about the Kiel canal. I accidentally clicked on the "Kiel canal" navigation mode and afterward searched the map and realized that there's a shortcut from Kiel to North sea.

I started my current patrol from Kiel by utilising the canal.

From the patrol point of view, given how inhospitable the North Sea is for a U-boat, and travelling through the English Channel is definately unhealthy, I wonder how much fuel is to be gained by using the canal. Once exiting the canal I then had to travel across the North Sea to sail around the Orkneys, etc?
