Default GWX Wolfpacks Rock!!!

I was lucky to happen upon three uboats tracking a convoy. Being the gungho lunatic I am, I get as very close until the DD see me(daylight). I submerge to 180 and of course the DD (3) circle me. This allows my three boys in the rear to get close enough(they only do about 7kts) to use the deck guns . They sink one and send the other on fire crawling back to the convoy in flames. I surface and finish him off with my cannon. I took a few to the chin myself. The third also was hit and smoking. He turned back to the convoy. I was finally able to work like a wolfpack It felt like a coordinated attack!

To make a long story short, there was a forth DD and I was just feeling my oats and decided to take him on with my cannon I won't be doing that anymore because he sunk me

You/we can only imagine how much better again the game will be if we ever get AI boats that can fire eels as well

True, something definitly missing upon release of this game way back when .

It was a lot of fun knowing I had some back up!

If I had gotten the last DD the convoy would have been done for......

I haven't encountered any yet How do you find them? I'd tagged a few 'circular' convoys which I thought meant they were already being stalked, but I haven't actually seen any comrades, I've tried scrolling through all my contacts and everything and searching with the external camera for them, sometimes there'll be a steamer on fire or something

Here's a photo of two of them stalking a convoy

You have to remember they are surfaced and the DD can sink them quite handly so sometimes you arrive and they are sunk. I just got lucky as they were tailing and I joined the parade

I just returned from a WAW patrol, got a radio report of a convoy, changed course to intercept. On the surface, at night in the horizon all sorts of flares and lighting effects were going off. Closer we got you could see the distant explosions. Very cool! anyway I dived the boat to let the convoy come toward me. The escorts were pinging away like mad and we were detected. Got the crap DC'd out of the boat, using the lrt mod we sustained massive flooding, systems damage etc etc. Barely snuck away from the escorts at 244m with repairs going like crazy. Once surfaced I could no longer dive, not even to pd as the boat went down uncontrollably from all the water. Forced to say surfaced for two days(61 hours repair time) during which the RAF found us twice. Barely made it back - all thanks to an AI wolfpack.

lol

As the convoy is rendered around 30km from the player the AI subs are generally sunk by the time you get there
WHEN AI torpedos are finally sorted then the escorts should hopefully still be tied up when you get there

As Hemisent found
Once the AI have attacked the convoy is on a high state of alert

Found one myself tonight
1 escort bow down and another on fire as well as 2 mercs when I got there
Still managed to sink 3 ships before the escorts found me
2 Black Swans gave me hell for a while but managed to slip away

That was one hell of an encounter

Attacking convoys with other subs is really something special. Speaking from the MP experience it's really great fun. Hopefully the devs will sort the AI torpedoes problems they're having and we'll be able to have wolfpacks in game as well

Warhawk, ya gotta get over the target fixation syndro--ye'r nutz taking on a DD by yerself--take your fingers and count 1, 2, 3, 4. That's how many cannon the destroyer has. Now, count yer guns--One!

Now do the exercise ten times, then go to the chalkboard and write 100 times: DDs have more guns than me. :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

Thats the thing with this one BigBoyW. These were trailing at 7-8 knts. I went on ahead and attracted the DD. As we all know they will circle for quite sometime. SO the distance was closed with the AI and they were busy looking for me. This was key in allowing the other AI subs to arrive and start shooting and quite well I might add. So it was really cool knowing my brothers in arms were in the mist using the cannons while I was the bait.
