Default Windows shut down help required

Hi, hope somebody can help me with this .. I can't shut down my Computer unless I use the button on the box. When I try using the on-screen, I get the following message..

Copying ...
Windows is currently working with a file. Either wait for Windows to finish, or close it before you quit Windows

Well, I don't have anything active and I've brought up Windows Task Manager and nothing so I don't understand it and it's driving me ! Is there a simple solution to this as I don't want to keep turning the box of tricks off by the button all the time !

I'm guessing you may have a backup program that's using the HDD and preventing it that way. Just a guess, though. I've never had that problem.

go under processes (the one that shows the exe.'s) and show me some of the odd looking ones....(like EXPLORE.exe [default is EXPLORER.exe, notice the 'r' is gone)

You may have a virus...

go to the microsoft help site and type in the as much of the message as you can in the advanced search....

I had a problem where the computer would lock in the shutdown process. You could leave it an hour and it would still be stuck.I never did solve it-I just swapped it with a new one from the manufacturer.

I had the same problem. But it seemed to fix up after a couple of spyware / virus sweeps.

I dont think it was infected as it was new out of the box and I had never used it on the internet.
