That was fun. I live so close and haven't been there yet.

Very nice.
![]() Looks like you almost had the ship to yourself most of the time.

All I can say is wow.
![]() The ship looks well cared for. I loved seeing the displays and well preserved artifacts, uniforms and wall photographs. Is this ship still fully functional with working engines ? Great Post and thread McBeck. Thanks for posting the thread and video. ![]() |

I would advice ANYBODY in the area to visit this ship and the USS Pampanito and by paying the 20$ (pr tour) admission you also support the upkeep... BTW, here is my Pampanito tour :

One thing I love about the US military attractions is that often, the people hosting are very dedicated and you can always have a chat with them

If you are ever in the Los Angeles area, there is another Victory Ship, the SS Lane Victory, docked in LA Harbor. It is usually open to the public and is preserved and maintained by the United States Merchant Marine Veterans of World War II, a non-profit. The ship is fully functional and has a tradition of offering summer cruises off the coast to the public; they even stage faux attacks by period aircraft and deck guns are manned to repel the attackers:
http://www.lanevictory.org/cruiseOverview.php Te cruises have been put on hold while they repair the boilers, but are promised to resume... Here is a link to their website: http://www.lanevictory.org/index.php BTW, the USS Iowa is berthed nearby... <O>
