Exclamation Das ist THOMSEN!!!

Whats up guys!

I've been away for a very long time.
I'm fine and healthy, living in Canada for the past 7 years, about to get my citizenship, and found the love of my life. Soulmates exist, I can now tell this from experience.

Even tho life has been busy as hell, I find myself constantly with an itch that never goes away, a hunger that cannot be satisfied. You all know what it is.

I've been playing a few games. Kerbal Space Program, for instance, I put a lot of hours into playing and modding that, it offers all the freedom and creativity SH3 offered me, but on a different theme.

I've been missing and constantly finding myself thinking back about the good golden SH3 days, back when I had plenty of time and was spitting out a new mod every day. I think I loved modding as much as playing, maybe more.

But every time I think of installing SH5, I remember the endless hours I had to go through the last time trying to install and configure all the mods and files and whatnot, it's such a pain in the @ss that I just can't be bothered. It's one thing when you're involved like I was on SH3, had different installs, different mod setups, knew what worked and what didn't, knew the bugs to expect, could sit in front of the computer, launch the game and have fun. But now I've been away too long, and every time I try to come back I'm scared away by pictorial threads several pages long. What was once my life, now gives me aneurysms just by looking at it.

Then I thought about maybe going back to good old SH3. The campaign was perfect, it just didn't have the amazing graphics SH5 has (yes I'm a graphic whore). It's kinda painful to play a game on 1024x768 and lousy graphics from a decade ago when you've put together a 4 thousand dollar computer and 3 monitors in eyefinity setup. I'm used with 2015 graphics maxxed out on a 5760x1080 resolution. Yet, I keep thinking about SH3, I miss it...

SH5, for all I can remember of it, is out of the question. The campaign sucks, the crew management sucks, the freedom isn't there. I just love the crew management we had on SH3. It's perfect. I also feel like I cannot play without SH3 Commander and all it's wonderful options. And to top it off, the most important thing, the amount of time and effort it takes to get SH5 setup and running with all the mods I want is just too much. The last time I tried I swore I wouldn't ever do it again. Makes me think life is just too short for that. Oh, almost forgot to mention... VIIC only? Come on... The IXB was always my favorite.

I won't talk about SH4. I don't like the idea of playing on the american side, the german side is limited, the campaign sucks... I don't remember much of it but I remember not liking it.

So, been hungry and unable to find food, I come to you.

I know some of you spend more time here than you should, and so I'd value your advice above all else. My questions are:

1) Whats up with SH5? Do we have a mega-mod yet? Did things get simplified or do I still need a lifetime and a half to get it running?

2) What about SH3? Did the development continued? Is it worth coming back to it?

3) Resolution: I remember trying and failing to play SH5 (or 3 for that matter) in eyefinity 5760x1080. Any of you heard of anybody who succeeded?

4) SH Commander for SH5? Or anything similar?

5) Crew management on SH5, any improvement on that area? Any mod similar to SH3?

6) Did someone managed to add new uboat types to SH5?

7) Any new sub games similar to SH3 worth checking out?

I'd love to come back. Please share your thoughts.

Hey PT, good to see you again!

Yes, SH5 is much improved, though I still don't play it. I still play SH3, with a bunch of new mods and a lot of the old ones. Welcome back, old friend.

Welcome back Thomsen!
I think that, judging by your post, you will be back in space in no time...
P.S.
Have they fixed x64 OS support for KSP?

Thank you for all the warm welcome guys!

I'm just surprised nobody tackled my post and replied item by item with a different font color and lengthy text. Back in the day, that was STANDARD behavior, haha.

They are about to launch 1.1 version, which replaces the engine with the new Unity 5.0. That has been designed around 64bits, so maily KSP will only work in 64 bits now. Not only that, it comes with a huge overhaul of many many things, many new parts, better physics, you name it. Now you can fly around a 500 part ship without any fps drop. They've been working in it for months.

They never discuss any release date, but they say it's really close. I'd give another month max, the whole thing is already in QA for the past few weeks. Keep an eye on Steam, you should see an update, a BIG update.

Since I know where you are coming from, I can say 100% yes.

I still have SH5 and SH4 up in my shelve, but no. SH3 is way more fun.
Too late...I guess Philipp have reached Eeloo so far...
