gear ME262 Project

According to the site, it's the only flyable ME262.
Pretty sweet.

near-exact reproductions of several versions of the Me 262
I find this thread too hard to 'swallow'! I'd imagine the 'near' exact has to do with today's superior metallurgical science which readily adapts, makes more reliable and improves the Jumo 004's 1940's theory BIGTIME

I noticed a small nav light flashing beneath the fuselage as it took off, so small but necessary concessions like that to modern regulations probably also account for the "near exact" bit

Why not take the Mauser 50 mm MK 214A (Maschinenkanone) to give you this extra Punch

Thanks fireftr18 for the video, learned something new about it
I always believed the Heinkel jet was the better design, and the Jumo 04 a better engine than the BMW 003. But then i'm biased, my father worked at the Junkers aeroplane works back then

It would be a bit dangerous and expensive to mount the original engines. They were EXTREMELY touchy to throttle changes (liked to catch fire or stall) and had a service life of just 25 hours IIRC.

The other experiment variant(2) carried the BK-5 50mm gun...As installed in the Me 262, the cannon was found to be prone to jamming, and if fired at night the BK 5's muzzle flash tended to temporarily blind the pilot's night vision. The standard 4 30mm cannon, while 'lethal on paper' had problems with jamming during maneuvering and low muzzle velocity made accuracy beyond 600 meters problematic and useless for straffing.

Awesome. From what I have seen, the reproduction me-262's being built now look like the original but feature advanced metallurgy and construction . The video mentions new GE engines and they can also be had with the Pratt and Whitney engines version.

Great video. Thanks for posting.

As far as I know the Collings Foundation has the only flying Me-262 in the USA as of this moment. It has the J85 engine in it, and it is a B-1c model.

http://www.collingsfoundation.org/ai...s/?tab=tab-two Then click on Messerschmitt ME-262.

And it is one of the 262s that were reproduced.. White 1 as far as I know and is based in Houston Texas. Bought from a Texas Judge's estate. Due to it's 300 mile range it doesn't go very far from home. It's the "one aircraft" that I was hoping to have a ride in if it was out on the "Wings of Freedom Tour". But that won't happen either. It is set up to fly with the single seat canopy or the dual seat canopy of a trainer. It is flyable from the rear seat.
