Default Battery Consumption

Hi guys. I'm new to Subsim, and I just downloaded SH5 about 3 days ago. I'm doing pretty well, thanks in no small part to the help of these forums and some good youtube tutorials.

I have a question about battery consumption when submerged. I got upgraded to my second boat recently. I think it's the U-48. This thing uses batteries up SO QUICKLY underwater. I mean like down to 50% battery after one hour in game at slow speed (speed 2). The batteries on the previous boat lasted alot longer. Is this just because I have the same battery technology with faster engines?

I did give alot of crew points to max speed. I also have 4/5 points into "recharge batteries faster when surfaced", which helps a bit i suppose. Still the battery gets used up far too fast when i'm submerged. Is this normal?

Thanks in advance for all your help.

Try avoiding fast runs unless in an emergency/life threatening situation, you should see some difference.

Welcome Aboard

Default Mods?

You didn't mention if you were using any mods, not that any mod would effect the battery but you should indicate what you are working with for any questions.

How long did the 50% take to be used up at slow speed?

You can / should do a study when outside of enemy sight. See how far a full battery will go at slow speed - then how long it takes to recharge. Then you can know your boat.

Any damage taken?

Thanks for the warm welcome, guys. You can just call me Commando. In fact, I'm the original Commando. Some imposter had already taken my account name on the forums.

Back to business. I was just cruising underwater at half speed trying to pick up sonar contacts. The battery lasts way longer at slow speed, of course but at 2 or 3 knots is SOOOO SLOW. I guess I'll just have to live with it and let time compression help out.

It's not really a huge deal. I'm just going to have to get used to it. The only reason I brought it up is because it's just so vastly different than my last boat.

Also I have no mods yet. I'm playing vanilla.

You'll find a world of difference when the Type XXI becomes available...17.5 knots submerged.
