Holey plots Batman
Have you ever noticed glaring holes in the plots or just plain stupid things that characters are made to do in movies or TV shows?
Enumerate them here... I'll start with Star Wars... The Empire strikes back... Scene: The ice planet Hoth... Luke and his Taun Taun have been jumped by a Yeti that drags them both back to it's cave. Luke wakes up and discovers he's been hung up for later consumption while the Yeti is finishing off the waca waca Taun Taun. Luke spots his light saber stuck in the snow and force grabs it to free himself. The Yeti charges to prevent his midnight snack from escaping and quickly loses an arm. Luke panics and runs out of the cave into a blizzard? WTF? How stupid do they make these Jedi or is there a sliding intelligence scale in the recruiting department? Wait, I have a nifty Laser Sword, so this Yeti shouldn't be a problem as long as he doesn't sucker punch me again and this cave will protect me from the elements outside. Maybe it was the smell of his former mount's guts? Ha ha. The galaxy is loaded with irony. What's the first thing Han does when he finds Luke face down in the snow? Right! Stuffs him in the belly of his own recently departed Taun Taun to keep him warm. I can hear Master Yoda now; " He's dumber than a box of rocks but the force is strong with this one." Too bad it couldn't have been stronger with George Lucas. ![]()

That and all movies have plot holes because they need to tell a story in a reasonable amount of time they also need to keep the viewers engaged some who might not have the most lengthy attention span.Really in any story you can say that the plot is stupid or tear it up by asking why this why that. The whole idea is that it is a story with some kind of struggle. You watch Luke suffer in the snow and it makes you feel empathy for him and you are already rooting for him because you know that he is the hero but heroes fail sometimes too. Another example The Road in the book (or movie) it is obvious that thigns are rather horrible yet the man keeps on going.Someone could say "why not just kill yourself and get it over with" but that would make a very boring story. ![]() ![]() Maybe it was a portable sun dial worn round the wrist. ![]() They call that something else errors like those in films continuity mistakes/errors.If you try you'll find some in just about every single movie. One of the best is Troy at one point you can see a powerful Greek god flying over observing the battle.Everyone knows that Greek gods do not look like modern jet airliners.I think most of these are to blame on filming schedules and things get missed when everyone comes back from lunch or comes in the for the next day and they are working on the same scene.Of course editors go through hundreds of hours of film and things just get missed. Most of the time you have to really hunt for them. I think Apollo 13 had a spot at one point where you cloud see a cameraman below the crews feet. ![]() Last edited by Stealhead; 10-14-13 at 04:05 PM. |

This is a sub-devoted board so it's time for Das Boot: one of the crew says that Gibraltar is as narrow as a virgin's...... .In another scene the navigator says that Gibraltar is 7 miles wide.

Yep even with a well made film you'll finds many of these little errors.
There are whole sites dedicated to finding every mistake in a film.I think who is that anal retentive?Usually if i notice a mistake it just makes me laugh. By the way the Apollo 13 cameraman I think they removed that with the DVD release.I was kind of annoyed actually.I watched it with a friend once and on the DVD the cameraman is gone so we took out the VHS and he was there. It was so awesome to see this cameraman bogart the floor panel and then he is gone. |

@ Stealhead...
Why so serious!? Try to have some fun with this. ![]() Next time you watch Return of The Jedi, pay close attention to Han right after Lea gets shot in the arm at the shield bunker door. He can hotwire a door and molest a princess at the same time it seems. ![]() ![]() I still haven't found any reasoning behind her being a princess when in reality, she was adopted by a Senator from Alderaan. I guess he was elected king at some point in her childhood. Ah well, that's what happens when you don't possess enough forethought to do both trilogies at or nearly at the same time to maintain continuity in the story lines.

I think he originally started with IV to be artistic.Anyway if you read the making of books for the original three(4,5,6) it is pretty clear that he had a ton of rather bad ideas and others that worked with him at that time where able to give creative input.I mean he wanted Leia to be a freaking droid human thing a ma jig.The weird bits where just what they where able to hash out.He had a very good IP that in realty others worked from to make a good story with 4,5,6 anyway. Now with the prequels Lucas was surrounded by yes men and no one challenged his ideas and it pretty clearly shows. One thing I always wondered...where was Yoda's toilet? Surely a powerful Jedi has much thinking and application of the Force to be done on the "throne" no? Yet Yoda had no toilet. He was old though maybe he only pooped once a decade or something also he seemed a bit none materialistic so maybe he just popped a squat out in the swamp and used a leaf. "Toilets not make one great". Another thought if a Jedi stands before a mirror and does the mind trick does he fool himself? How about if he where in a hall of mirrors? Also why did they allow a Wookie to walk around butt naked? When he sits in your space chair.... well anyway I think you get the idea of my thinking here. Actually seven miles is a very tight squeeze indeed. You can see from shore to shore, and it's very hard to hide a ship on anything but the foggiest nights. Considering that the Straight of Dover is considered tight, and it's 21 miles at the narrowest point, I don't see a problem with them describing Gibraltar as being that tight.

Not fair...
Chewie wore an ammo baldric so he wasn't totally sans clothing. If you don't want to smell where he was sitting, stop acting like Mork. ![]() Yoda had his little hover 'round that also doubled as a toilet when he wasn't living in his swamp. Strong with the force was he and getting rid of a light meal was no problem. At least the question of toilets on a spaceship were covered in Joss Whedon' Firefly. They had toilets and sinks similar to WWII subs. Fold outs. Probably dumped their sewage in space periodically. Watch out for those floating bricks. ![]() ![]()
