This has likely been asked before but in indirect ways or as an aside in discussing the many mods available here. I'm wondering if there's any documentation here that lays out the mods in a stepped arrangement similar to the "Realism" options screen within the sim. The result would be a chart of sorts that tells you which mods you can add that gradually change the sim from very basic to full realism.
Mods that fix things would be part and parcel to the chart but would not be characterized as a "step" towards realism per se. If anything they would simply be noted as a benefit within a particular mod or as stand-alone fixes that would apply across the board regardless of where you are on the realism ladder so to speak. I want SH3 (and SH4 for that matter) to function as closely as possible to the original Silent Hunter while being able to enjoy all the features that SH3 brought to the table. I enjoy realism but am not so hardcore that I would want to turn off things like auto TDC or map icons that indicate friendly or enemy to name only a couple. It seems to me there are a lot of packaged mods here that force you to play at higher realism than you may prefer. Is this a pipe dream? I haven't spent much time with SH3 for quite a while but recently watched "Das Boot" and the old itch returned to get back on patrol. I would want to do the same with SH4, too as the Pacific is where I cut my teeth on sub sims back in the happy times of MicroProse and the flood of games we enjoyed back in the late 80's through the 90's.
