Default What Would You Pay For...

What would you pay for the engine out of a 1962 Piper J3 Cub?

My friend just put a Decathlon engine in his and I told him I'd take the old one off his hands since he didn't need an engine that didn't run.

Well, I (with the help of my cousin) got the engine running like new (just flushed all the fluids and cleaned the spark plugs) and I was just wondering if there's any money in selling it.

My first choice was to make a low powered motorcycle/go kart out of it, just as an experiment, but, ehh, sounds too difficult and I could use some money.

Really not sure who or where to look on this one...

I'll admit I have no idea, I'll come straight out with it.
But, have you looked on websites that sell air craft parts?
To see what the going price is for things like this? Might be a good starting point.
Also salvage yards for air craft parts etc.

Looking like I could fetch 3-5 grand for it

Which would do a lot for my projects.

And Anthony even posted in a thread that he had been placed on his ignore list anyway.

If it is a Continental A65 it should go for up to 5000.00 if it is well restored.

Good lord where did you find that.

I remember watching those test patterns by the hour during the early days of TV. "Our programing has experienced some difficulty. Please stand by."

The magic ignore list
You should know I will always take the mickey out of a bull excrement merchant.
For example Haplo having me on his ignore list doesn't stop me from writing that he doesn't know scripture when he goes into "christian" mode

It does make for some entertaining reading on occasions.
Whether right or wrong.

Technically speaking, the Indian head with "please stand by" written on it, was not a test pattern, as the writing covered important details.

Here is a link to a test pattern page: http://www.meldrum.co.uk/mhp/testcard/ It mainly covers European cards, as the Amercians were the first who to broadcast 24/7, here we used them much longer mostly during the night break.
Here are some from the bw era: http://www.tv-testbild.com/html/bw.htm
and from the color era: http://www.tv-testbild.com/html/color.htm

Speaking of stand-by cards, these were pretty cool:

(I love test cards )

The engine didn't run... He had a new one. He didn't want to bother with fixing the old one or have it laying around the hangar taking up space. I got it. Simple.

Hell, I could go pull a 454 Big Block out of the junkyard across town and they wouldn't charge me for it so long as I got it dismounted myself.
