Default Dumb DD's even in TMO lol

January 1942, USS Plunger off Kii Suido.Attacked a convoy entering Kii Suido I spotted while conducted daylight submerged patrol in the actual channel.Managed to hit a Hakusika Maru with two fish and a Ryunn Maru with one, other prematurely exploded. The Hakuksikas bow flooded and she went under bow first.I then went to 165 feet and silent running. The Two DD's came close but never even pinged me or dropped charges.Seas were heavy but still, their performance was lackluster, even with the "harder escorts" patch Ducimus whipped up a while back attached, they just didnt pick me up, even when i went to scope depth to check and they were nearby.Early DD's are just too easy, even in TMO

I must have an engine knock or the vibrations from the ice cream machine, I'm still in December 41 and have a hard time not being pinged TMO RSRD

I'm not sure how it's programed, but maybe you lucked out. Perhaps their active sonar was useless in that weather and since they didn't really have an idea where you were they sat there trying to get anything on passives. Also yes they may seem easier in the early war, and it usually is, but I got stung real bad once and made a post about it.

Escorts have a skill rating from 0 to 4. Ducimus began by eliminating all the fours because those are unshakable. That's why running stock or RFB you'll run into the occasional DD from hell. The rest of the escorts have a distribution of the skills, with more of them threes than anything else.

But you can still run into a dufus or two. It's actually fun after you identify them!

DD's are individually identifiable? I mean I know they have numbers (at least I think they do), but I thought escorts were randomly generated to fit the convoy parameters?

The campaign is broken up into years in the campaign files. The ships are generated randomly, however they are limited to whatever skill level they are set to for a given year. In 1941-42 escorts are pretty easy with the occasional skilled crew aboard. As the war progresses the skills improve, yet you can still run into poorly skilled escorts once in awhile.

Not a problem that I am having. They seem to be able to detect me as easily as the planes do.
