Default Kriegsmarine GRID MAP - An original one?

..that went on service? Take a look on scans a friend of mine send me. He bought the original in an old book store in holland (his mother works in a library and digitalized the A2 size map for me on a machine, that is for digitalization of old charts and maps for storing!). She was astonished to see such a rare document.

Now i am not sure, if this could be true. In other words: I cant believe it! There are several markings on the map! Look at the front side...there are relics of pencil markings. and on the back there is an (water caused?) imprint of a pencil drawn movement chart!!!

Could this be true? Would be great stuff! If you think it is worth it, i will let his mother make a high resolution scan (costs some more money!) and reprint this map in original size for sale. What dou you think?

Looks really ledgable. If it is authentic, I'm very impressed with how well preserved it is.

Definitely worth investigating to find out!

Corrected the link...and got the info, that the stamp says "Kriegsmarinearsenal Toulon". Checked this already, there was such an arsenal. And the map is dated 1941. I will order some more detailled screens from it. I wanna see the pencil drawing on the back!

Got an update:

Dont know, what to think of it. Anyone seen such a drawing, like the one on the back? Would be very grateful for any news on that!

Tweaked the image in Photoshop, by increasing the contrast and selecting colors. Awesome! Its a real drawing..or the rest of it. The legend(?) reads from upper left to bottom right "Flugzeug" (airplane), "Tauchfahrt" (dived), "Pei...?", "?", "...koppelte Gegner...?" (enemy ...), "Fühlung?" (contact).

Sounds to me like an action report from a war patrol was written on the back of the navigational chart. I'm guessing the Kaluen, or first officer hurridley wrote it there, so they wouldn't forget. Then transferred it to their war diary sometime later.

Of course this is all speculation. But thats what I can discern from it.

You should take it to an expert in WWII antiquities just to be sure!

You will probably have to use photoshop to fix the tear at the top , put it up on eBay if you decide to print it and let me know, I will buy a copy!
