Hey guys,
a few days ago I was flipping through my collection of PC games and came across a long-time favorite of mine which I haven't played for ages: Activision's Battlezone (yup, the very first one). And here comes the good news: With OpenGlide and the 1.4 patch, it still works under Windows XP! I don't know how often I played through the campaign, which is, unfortunately, pretty short. I have also played Battlezone II every once in a while, but IMO, it is waaay inferior to the first instalment. The scenario is yet another "fight the evil aliens" washed-up sort of thing - I liked fighting out the Cold War in deep space much better. Also, controls were more intuitive. In the first part, I spent most of my time battling the enemy - in the second part I battle the interface. AFAIK there is currently a modding project underway which seeks to recreate the first BZ with the engine of the second - really something to look out for. And for all those of you who are interested: There are still some servers up for BZ to play online. Just wanted to let you know ![]() |
