Has the star which marks your patrol area turned from orange to grey yet? Until it does command doesn't consider your patrol over.

I think you have to be remain within 50 miles of your patrol area for 48 hours, then the star will become grey. I use my compass and make a 50 mile diameter circle to keep from straying out of it. If you do stray the 48 hour clock starts over.

Missions come in a lot of flavors. Some want you to just get to a patrol area. Others want you to get there and then sink x amount of tonnage. Others want you to get there and then patrol within a certain radius for a given amount of time. Depending upon which mod(s) you are using the radius and time requirements can differ greatly. Some examples: 85 nm, 108 nm, 150 nm, 300, nm, 50 nm, etc. Same with the time; 36 hrs, 48 hrs, 72 hrs, 96 hrs, etc. Make sure you read your mission briefing carefully on the blackboard in the 'office' before you enter your patrol. All the details are given there.

Did you make sure the star turned grey BEFORE you sank the ships. On this type of mission, you objective is to reach the star with the flag on it, THEN you are given the second part of the mission. Any ships sunk before you reach the destination do not count. Usually is is somewhere around 10K in stock game, I can't speak for MODS.
If that is what happened, you can go to the nearest base and 'refit' and continue the mission to sink the necessary tonnage.

If it can be edited. Most missions now require you to remain within 50nm ... Beery's tutorial says 100nm.
