Default Jonesoft Generic Mod enabler

Hello everyone, I have recently installed the Generic mod enabler and it wont work I've tried everything and i install the mods into the mod folder but they dont show up in the mod screen what do i do thanks for the help!

Are the mods JSGME compatable? Some aren't. Also, when you unzip some mods you also need to click on the unzipped folder that appears to get to the folder that goes in the MOD folder. The folders that go into the MOD folder have the name of the mod underneath them.

Well the mods i downloaded like i just tried the TMO mod and its jsgme compatabile and now the folder the zipped one doesnt even show up in the MODS folder

when you go into a mod. look through all its files. once you hit data, STOP. then go back, and copy and paste that file into your MODS folder...thats all i can think of

Did you unzip the mod into a regular folder in the MODS folder? Also, what operating system are you using and where is your game installed if you are using Vista?

Im using a HP windows Vista the folder is located as follows:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Ubisoft\Silent Hunter Wolves of the Pacific\Data

Have you followed the instructions outlined in the JSGME help file, which is there to, umm, help you.

- MICROSOFT VISTA USERS: If you are running the Generic Mod Enabler on Vista and are having problems with mods "taking" (the usual symptom is that the MODS folder itself is not created when the Generic Mod Enabler is first run), then simply right-click JSGME.exe in Windows Explorer and select "Run as Administrator". Alternatively, right-click JSGME.exe and select "Properties". In the properties window select the "Compatibility" tab and check "Run this program in compatibility mode" and in the box below select "Windows XP (Service Pack 2)". In some instances you may need to apply both solutions.
If you're new to Vista, then I also recommend you read up on Vista's "User Account Control" and "File Virtualization" features to get a better idea of what's going on under the Vista hood in regards to system security.

Oh, and heed the popular advice of *not* installing SH4 into your Program Files folder. If you install it to, say, C:\Games\SH4 or such you avoid the whole issue altogether.

Ok, i'm a Vista user.... I modifid couple of files (e.g. names.cfg) in my SH4 folder that is located (against the advices) in my Program Files folder while trying to start my modding career. The changest didn't seem to affect to anything but i'm pretty much sure that they should. I have couple of mods enabled with JSGME from my MODS folder, but i guess the ones the game is using are in the installation folder? So, is this also a Vista related issue or does JSGME have something to do with this? Remapped file locations or something like that?

It has to be unzipped first. Then it goes into the MODS folder.

My first suggestion would be to uninstall and reinstall with the above advice. Same yourself a lot of headaches in the longrun.
2. Don't change files in the SH4 folder, especially while a MOD is enabled. If that MOD happens to change the same file, when you uninstall it, you could end up with a mess. JSGME keeps track of what it installs and reverts back to the originals when it is uninstalled. So if you start changing things JSGME may not be able to uninstall them. That is why some mods need to be installed in a certain order and uninstalled in a certain order. Not to mention, sooner or later you will forget what you changed or at least forget what the original values were.

3. Copy the file you want to change to another location, make your changes and enable it as a mod. For example your Name.cfg, set it up like this:

MyNamesCfgChangesMOD (folder)
Data (folder--MUST be the first folder inside your MOD folder)
Roster (folder)
Names.cfg (file you are changing)

That is the exact path to Name.cfg, now copy MyNamesCfgChangesMOD to the mod folder and enable it and it will make the changes to Names.cfg, and if it doesn't work you disable it with JSGME and no harm done. Just make sure when you set up your mod you use the same folder structure that is in the game.

...doesn't quite explain why my changes under the SH4 installation folder won't show up in a game. Changes are small, easy and have been done before (ship lenght to recognition manual). Also i'm trying to be wise enough to backup my files manually and if the JSGME is only copying and renamig the file extensions it shouldn't be a problem if you know what you are doing?

So i was askin why, rather than how, because i wan't to further modify the results of a mod cobination and i was trying to find out how the actually JSGME handles the files. I'm going to make my mod JSGME compatible but i'd like to experiment with minor tveaks for a start...

Also i quess using the Program Files folder for installations shouldn't be a problem in these days, especially if the program is designed to install that folder (actually i have faced more problems with the software that is not installed where the installer want's to). Though i found out that my SH4 installation folder is one of the rare folders under my Program Files folder that actually uses the file virtualization -> Problem solved, but that's not a good reason to reinstall the game...
