The texture you need to work with depends on which sub you're going to work on. If you download a subskin from BattleFlags.net -Welcome Aboard! or one of foos skins at FooFighters Silent Hunter 4 sub skins page you can see the folders that you need to look in and the textures involved for the submarine that you downloaded the skin for. For instance, for the conning tower of an Tambor class sub, the textures you would need to work on would be ......\Data\Textures\TNormal\tex\NSS_TamborTower_T 01.dds (early war tower) and ......\Data\Textures\TNormal\tex\NSS_TamborTower_T 02.dds (late war tower). Each class of sub basically has it's own textures (some classes share textures).
If you want to know where on the texture is a good spot for whatever you want to paint, download one of the completed skins from battleflags and note the positions on the textures, then get the Fooskin you want and paint on the textures in the same position. Make sure you use the entire skins files for your mod so that all parts of the sub are skinned correctly. It's best to leave the emblem you paint on the tower as a seperate layer in your graphic so that you can easily move it around to a good position. Also, please note that whatever you paint on these textures will be mirrored on one side or the other (never can remember which), so using text or numbers isn't going to look very good on which ever side is reversed. If you want to create a "combo" skin, then download a black fooskin and the grey skin of your choice for the sub class (weathered, clean or heavy weathered) and copy all of the files in the grey skin that end in T02 into the appropriate folders in the black skin. This will result in a skin that is black during the early part of the war and grey in the latter part of the war, which is what the paint schemes during the war really were. |
