I have noticed that there are currently 3 or 4 identical posts on the SH4 forums from new captains asking what supermods are best to use. I think most will agree that this is totally subjective based on what kind of SH4 experience you are looking for.
When I started playing SH4 about a month ago I playing stock, read forum posts and slowly added mods to suit my tastes. I then got totally hyped up and started setting up mulit SH4 and now have 3 installs with stock with GFO, RFB and TMO and am constantly adding and deleting smaller mods to see what I like. I have gotten this far by reading these forums and testing and experimenting. The reason for my post here is to see if there is any interest in me creating a thread that would introduce all the supermods, environmental mods and campaign mods to a new captain. The info would be objective and not subjective and I would try to work with the mod creators to come up with a review that lets skippers know what a particluar mod would do to change their stock game experience. I would also try to keep it up to date as to cross compatibility with other mods and the most current versions available. I don't think the info would be anything really new or earth shattering but it would help bring together all the bits and pieces that are spread out over hundreds of threads and posts. I am semi-retired and run a home based business so I think I can give it the time it deserses and give something back to the community for all I have taken in the last couple months. Let me know what you think and with the forum moderators permission I will start working on it. |

Could you make some sort of a review for TMO and RFB for example ? Because I for one still don't know which of these 2 I'm gonna choose to use along with RSRDC (which I know that alters the campaign and makes it more real and everything)

Yes...those two are the biggest supermods out there so definetly. I was thinking that I would start with the top level supermods stock/GFO, TMO, RFB and FOTRS and then the campaign and environmentals. Beyond those major layers of mods it probably would get too confusing.
If you are looking to choose now I would recommend your view the individual [REL] threads in this Workshop forum and you will probably find a good start. And as I said in my first post I just jumped in and tried, if you don't like a mod try another or multi SH4 and try them all. |

I like the idea. First post out of way, sweet!
I have TMOwtw, RFB and FOTRS. Also have RSRD. I am running FOTRS now, first campaign 3rd partol, Feb 42. I had trouble with ctd's on TMOwtw. And I haven't run RFB yet. I'm tired of initials already. Anyway from a gameplay and graphics pov, all the supermods make the stock game look like atari. I am so glad that there are these grat mods. I'm trying to figure out what's what and what next and what I don't need and all that. Its fun. |

Well if one was to review TMO and tear it apart like a game view, try and wait tell i have the last version of it out. I'm *hoping* to be done in 3 or 4 weeks. Less if i can manage it.

Each mod has has a detailed thread totally explaining each mod and what it works with. Course we've had several threads debating mods and what works best with what, who likes what with what, just never took off, so good luck..

My thing is that a guide to the 2 main supermods for new captains is need for so many different mods are grouped into the supermods and need some explaining.RFB has a 64 page manual but does not go into all the new icons and what they do.
TMO has a small read me file but also does not go into the different icons that are now installed. The map screens are a lot different than stock and that could use some help with new people. These are just some of my thoughts as I think a New Captains Manual would be a great idea to be put online even for printing. No problem, I can work on the others first, I imagine it will take about that long to get it right anyway. Thanks for willing to be included.

I agree...the problem is the new captains don't bother to search for them and continue to post asking for our opinion about what is best. I thought this would help organize these threads into one place to make it easy and hopefully drecrease the posts. As I stated all I plan on doing is bring the info together, not create anything new.

One other thing Ducimus...as I stated in my first post I am looking to give objective info not subjective, I don't plan on making it a review or be critical, I think they all are great depending on what type of game experience you are looking for. Just the facts about how the mods change stock so newbies can have a good idea as to what they want to try.
