Default Back to the Atlantic!

played SH3 alot last year with GWX. Loved it. Then stopped playing for months until I decided to give SH4 another shot 2 weeks ago. I was blown away by the beautiful graphics of SH4. Thought I would never leave the warm Pacific. Then tonight I dusted of SH3 again and U-48 sailed out into the Atlantic. I am hooked again. You just cant beat U-boats and GWX!

Both versions of the game are very good. The Atlantic is almost perfect as various mod teams had enough time to work on it. The Pacific version has its moments and there are some good mods out there that can make your experience rewarding. In the end of the day it's all about what you like and how you get the most out of the game. Personally I enjoy the Atlantic and the U-Boats more but I will try the Pacific theater of operations once I have a bit of time.

oh yeah. SH4 is a great game. really I was done with sub sims when SH4 brought me back into them. Wasnt even thinking of SH3 but when I noticed it was still installed on my PC I thought I would start a new career and see how it went. And yeah, SH3 with GWX is almost perfect.

Only thing I miss from SH4 is the cool missions (which you can add yourself with some imagination) and the crew management (I turned on no fatigue with SH3 commander as I dont think a U-Boat commander should have to micromanage his crew shift changes).:p

Haven't personally played or really seen much of SH4, though assume from others that its a quality product. I've often thought of SHIII being like the original Half Life game, or the first two Final Fantasy games on the NES. Relative to now the graphics aren't up to par, but the content and depth of gameplay were so intense that it really didn't matter how good or bad it looks.

SHIII with GWX is beautiful, but still constrained by the graphics to a certain degree. Its one of the games where the content and the community have made it into something so great that you so easily immerse yourself into it even if it isn't full of eye candy

yeah u definatly see the age in SH3 graphics after a few weeks with SH4 on a nice system, but I still love the SH3 graphics alot. Not as crisp but still very nice. The main thing is the water and sky. The water in SH4 is breathtaking but I quickly forgot about it after a few cold nights on a Sept 1940 Atlantic patrol. Those Uboats sure get tossed around, unlike the big fleet boats.

And yeah with the crew management thing, I know some people would think its a cheat, playing without crew fatigue, but whatevever. I enjoy the game more without have to check each crewman to see if he is tired. I am sure most Uboat crewmen knew when and where they had to be. Simple drilling and shift changes is a basic part of naval life.

Let's remember to keep this one civil in here lads, there isn't any more need be it here or SUBSIM in general for a SH3 vs. SH4. There both great experiences in their own right.

It's been done many times before, do a search and you will see. See how many have been locked as well

I had the same experiences. I have both SH3 and SH4. I recently completed a whole SH3 career so I powered up SH4. It just does not feel right. I think my personal problem is with the SH4 interfaces.

SH3 just works faster interface wise.

Besides the mission of SH3 is more to my liking

I have always wanted to fight a desperate battle against impossible odds
